Title: glue problem
Post by: sadiejane on February 21, 2011, 11:22:30 am
ok, ive tried everything that i can think of and some of my fletching is still coming loose.
i use duco cement, rough up the area, all are wood, some painted,
some dipped in water based floor finish, some raw or stained.
use a commercial(blitzenberger) jig
leave em at least 15-20 minutes.
and still a few pop loose
what am i doing wrong??

When I was making cedars I only used water based poly and did my fletching with Duco and never had a problem. Have you tried fletch tape? I also had good luck with it.

I've had occasional problems using Duco on water based varnish.  I switched to using super glue for fletching jobs.  Ron

I've tried all the glues out there.  When I went to Bohning Fletching tape I'll never look back.  I can do a dozen arrows up in an hour.  The tape seems to stick to all finishes so far that I've used.  I use the tape on all arrows I make now.

I like the tape too.  I think Three Rivers Archery sells it, they are a sponsor too.  I get mine locally or I would order it from them.

Superglue or tape. Both work better than Duco, and stick and dry instantly.

up til now, ive really resisted the fletching tape. but maybe i shld rethink that stance.
does it last/adhere as well as glue?(of course ive been having trouble with glue so....)
thanks

bought some fletching tape. would hardly stick at all! pressed it down good on the shaft. then did per the instructions running a fingernail down the quill applying pressure. feather just pulls right off. and the tape pulls free of the feather quite readily. well, shoot...
ok off to the hardware store this morning for some super glue....

Superglue gel works for me. I like tape too but last summer I left a dozen arrows in my conservatory in the sun and when I came home every fletch had dropped off!  ??? My favourite fletching glue is one made here in the UK called HMG.
