I've been on a really slow job 12 hours a day with long breaks so I have had a lot of time this week to do some flintknapping. Here are a couple points I finished today.

Really like the first one. Really cool looking rock. What is it?
12 hours with long breaks, I’d go nuts. I guess if I could Knapp during break it would be more tolerable. Like the other point too, just really like the stone on the first one.
-
Those will definitely work.
That first one is really pretty. Both the material and the scare pattern.
You’re really making some nice points Allyn. It’s been fun watching your progress. Those look really sharp.

The first one is knife river Flint, I really love that material. It's much tougher rock than it seems like it should be with how fine the material is. Thank you Brian, this hobbie has been my favorite thing to learn. I really hope one day we get to sit down together and beat some rock.
The second point didn't turn out the way I had envisioned but the stone worked really well.
-
I’d like that too Allyn.
Maybe next year. I’d like to see the Silver Spring knap in. It should be a good time for me to get away if I can schedule it. Just happened to have doctors appointment we couldn’t cancel.

That's ok, we are closing on our house that weekend so I might not make it either lol

This is gonna be my new thread for work points. I'm gonna try to pump out at least one a day.

Very nice. What is that rock?
-
It's raw Burlington from Missouri. I collected a lot of rock when I lived there. The fossils sparkle in the sunlight.
-
Today's point, made for a crummy piece of harvester chert that I heated.

Cranking some nice points out Allyn.
-
Either that heat treatment was really good or you’re really in the zone. Probably both.
Nice day at work

Thank you Rick and Brian, the heat definitely helped. Today I broke 2 points that were a little too thin and I made 2 others as well as finished a blade I started the other day.

Really like the big one.
That one looks like it could survive the durability test and still cut

Beautiful work, you are staying busy. ;)

Brian that big one is nice and sharp. Thanks pappy I have definitely been enjoying all my flintknapping practice lol.
Today I only made one but I made it for my wife. I thought she would love the colors and we don't really have the money for gifts this Valentine's day.

Pretty sweet Allyn. I’m sure your wife will love it. You can’t buy something like that with money.
Good job 👍
-
Well I’m sure you have a very soft heart of stone.
I gave my wife two hearts connected by an arrow passing through them that I cut out of scrap wood on my little bandsaw.
She still has it and it is one of her favorite gifts.
I’m sure she will love it.

Thank you musky and BJ, I enjoyed making it.

Awesome points Allyn. The second one looks familiar to me except I don’t get nearly that far along.
-
Nice work Allyn.
Hope you didn’t say any bad words.lol

Musky you are already further than I was for how long you've been at it, I expect great things from you. Brian it was more of a weary sigh lol
-
Today's point, I did one yesterday but i wasn't happy with it.

Love it Allyn
Is that butterscotch flint river?
I can see when we finally get to set down together that your going to be showing me a few things.

Very nice. Liking the color of the rock.. I tried looking around for some flint river but couldn’t find much. Gonna keep my eye out though.
-
BJ if you wanna learn how to chase your own mistakes back and forth across a piece I'm your guy lol. I lost the battle today and broke way more pieces than I made. The cahokia I broke twice. Musky Flint ridge is what you'd have plus whatever else is in Ohio. Projectile points.net is a good resource for Knappable material. You can find it by state and region. This rock came from Missouri and as far as I know I'm the only one that has it. I named it calico jasper, this is my third time naming it, I didn't like the other 2.

Well it might be better than learning from chasing my mistakes.lol always say I learn more from my mistakes than my accidental successes.
Nice work

Flint ridge is about it here Allyn. Have been thinking about making a trip there this spring but undecided as of yet. I’ve looked online and really haven’t seen many options if any in Ohio. Might look around online and see what Kentucky has. I can be in the northern part of the state in about a hour. Might see what’s available around cave run lake and make it a musky fishing/rock hunting trip
Very nice points by the way. Really like the picture with the sunlight showing through the point.

Allyn, thank you so much. I’ve actually got a creek that runs through my property and have maybe already found something that resembles one of those pieces I saw on the chart.. I put a picture on here back when I found some rocks asking if anyone thought it might be chert. Nobody said anything so I pitched them but I think I stashed the one that might be in the chart.. it was kind of waxy looking when I cracked it into. I might go back out there this weekend and see if I can find it. If I remember right I sat it on a log laying in the creek. Should still be there if it didn’t get washed away by the creek. If I find it I’ll post a picture of it on your thread here.
Thanks again
-
Oh man that last point is killer. Great picture.
-
Musky no matter if it looks like something on the chart, if it is waxy and it breaks conchodialy you can Knapp it. Now that you have good rock you can find other rock with similar properties to collect on your own.
Parnell thank you very much : ) I was afraid I was gonna break it
-
That natural line in the material would do it!
