Hi all,
Have just built a NEW boo back and belly bow, specs are 56 NTN at 24" D bow, please see attached pics , any comments and recommendation most welcome.
1st pic is tillered to 23".........one more inch to go

this is a close up of the left limb after 200 shots, approx 8 inch in from the tip, there seems to have a hinge..............what do u think guys, is this going to be a problem on the long run.............?

Does this bow have a lot of handshock?
The outer limbs donīt seem to bend a lot, do they?
I would make the limbs bend more in the middle and outer third - especially the right limb seems a little stiff.
How did you make this bow - die you glue two backings together?
I was thinking of trying to just sticking together two backings.
do you need to put some core wood in the middle?

I started to reflex the bow at 18" from the mid section onto a 2 " reflex, and i believe that for a limb that is changing from deflex to reflex does not bend much (althought i like it to)
Handshock, I feel a little, but that can be over come by shooting a heavier arrow.
I has really good string weight, pulling to 58lbs at 24".......but when its shot in, i will loose a few lbs.
How was it made? cut 2 raw boo, plane down the belly and taper it to the limbs, surprisingly very little tiller was required after glue up as I "carefully" did most of the tapering during preparation of the lams. Little tillering was done "trapping" the limbs. ;D

yes, theres a slight hinge there you need to get the mid limb working some more to correct that side and the mid and outer limb on the right side.

An unstrung picture would be good, so we get a feel of how much the mid-section is bending.

You might send me a reminder to resave the full draw picture when its all done. Although the image on the T-stick is pretty good.

Hey Robin, pretty cool.
I'm curious if you have ever tried tillering a boo bellied bow like your's just by scrapping and sanding the belly (just like an osage backed bow)? I've been told not to remove any boo from the belly before, but I built one and did just that. I didnt notice any more set than I would have gotten by not doing it.

Matt, if you are going to remove wood from the belly of the boo back boo belly bow........from teh belly, u are actually removing the power fibres.............I have a few occassion crystallized my bow due to that process.
Well maybe my bow was not bending properly. But this is my experience, well like all the bowyers say, do whats works for u. RT

Hi,
Its been a while since I posted, I would like to share with all primitive bowyers my latest creation.
The specs are 1) 56NTN 2) 53lbs at 23 inch draw 3) maintained a 1" postive reflex after unstrung(for 20 mins)
The bow is made very much the same way when i posted my 1st boo bow in Dec 2007, but i heated the boo and pre-bend it into reflex on both limbs b 4 i did the glue up. After that very little tillering is needed as the limbs are pre-tillered b4 glue up, hope you like it and feel free to comment pls......... Handle is wrap with motorcycle tubing.

Great candidate for Oct Laminate Bow of the Month. I'll bet this is one snappy shooter.

Gordon has been kind enough to share with me some suggestion and ideas on my latest Boo bow.......enjoy
51.5 NTN, bend in handle D bow, after shooting and unstrung keeps 2" reflex (after 30 mins keeps 2.5 reflex) 28lbs at 24", nice wippy bow. similar to my other boo bows i have built, 2 lams back boo, belly boo.
unlike the other boo bow, this one , i kept the backing at only 1/8 thick, belly at the middle is 6mm tapering to 3 mm at the tips
I felt that in my previous bows, i keep the thickness of the backing and the belly the same.........this may be the cause for the belly boo crystalising after shooting in after 150-200 shots. So far this bow belly is holding up.............
