Title: stone drill
Post by: Coo-wah-chobee on February 25, 2008, 05:54:20 pm
.....................Been a little slow on this forum so I thought I would post this stone drill I just made fer some of my primitive projects. Old ones were wore out. I had point in case fer lots of years. Touched it up a bit and drill shaft is beautyberry I harvested a few months ago. Enjoy...bob

Cool drill, Bob. It's amazing how well they work if you get them tuned up right. I've made a couple that would drill through wood, bone, and soft rock like crazy, and a couple that wouldn't bore a hole in a stick of warm butter.  :)

That give me an idear, hehe ;D. I always thought they just held the drill in their fingers and wrenched it back and forth. Hadn't thought about the stick spinning thing - thanks bob..

the rack i had for tanning was built primitive. the large hides when drying would tear the thing apart so i used a stone drill and bone auger to drill through the pieces and made wood pins. thing never moved again. probably leaning against the barn at my old house still
