Title: Atatl section......
Post by: part Cherokee on December 15, 2009, 09:15:36 pm
Do you think that this forum will ever have an atlatl section.
Do you think it should. If so why or why not?

If there`s not enough interest in a seperate discussion board on here, you can go to
 paleoplanet69529.yuku.com
They have an "ancient weapons" area just for things like atlatls, slings & other old weapons.
It`s about 1/2 way down the page of forum topics.

It would be cool to have a forum for the Atatl.

You found the perfect place for it, right here in this section. You start us off by posting a few.

The World Atlatl Association has an entire section at Paleoplanet. It is further subdivided into other sections.

From Square Shooter. OK, the reason I made my first bow is because someone
Asked if I was going to. So now i'll take up this challenge and make a first Atatl.
I've seen a few pics and words, enough to get started and help this forum to grow.
Ill send some pics as soon as have somethin to pic at. I will have to find a long, thin
Sappling already dry, for a dart. I've got some feathers n maybe something for an
Arrowhead. Don't know knappig, anybody have any suggestions on arrowhead
Material?

no see now that doesnt work for me
the topic was to start an atlatl section here on PA
not to be redirected to paleoplanet.
that was why i asked for someone to show a "how to" on atlatl's
as in show me how to build and proper way to use
i dont want to go to pp to learn how
i want to learn how here
nothing personal,i do go there for other things

No problem. Just trying to direct you to the instructions and then thought perhaps you could post the Build Along.

Perhaps an Atlatl section can be started here. I have not posted much the last couple of years, but have been a member here for about 10 years now.

Back then we had the Archery section and that was about it. I can remember when the other sections were added over a period of time. There are still a few guys here that can probably also remember those days. It seemed that when a large enough number of posts showed up for a given topic, then another section was born....best of luck with it.

I'd like to learn something about it too. I'm always up for a little knowledge.
If it grows big enough you might get a seperate section.Power of the mass's. Good luck
Thanks Leroy

I've got a start on a dart shaft. Sorted thru a lot of cedar. The lightest one also had perfect
Grain. Bandsaw broke another blade. Over an hour hacksaw ripping it to size, ha. That's
about six attempts for these 60 year old arms. Now ill rasp it to rounder.cedar vaaries a
lot in weight. I have some antler that maybe can be used for the dart tip, thanxx Brian.
Now ill go to the PP site n see what can learn there, thanxx Hhop. Earlier read that the dart
:oshaft can be splined to springback for extra thrust. Also the throwing board can flex too.
So must be a good bow wood will make a good flexing lever. I've got some oasage. Ya, mines
coming togeather!¡!¡! N so is this new forum, ain't it?!
