Title: Rug loom
Post by: BowEd on November 13, 2018, 07:36:13 am
It seems Robin has a need to be creative too while seeing me make bows and arrows. She's got the ambition for sure.Made up a rug loom for her.It can make 8 different length and width rugs. The material she uses at the moment is strips of bed sheets. She picks those up dirt cheap at a thrift store. It makes nice thick rugs.

She's made 7 or 8 so far.I'll get some pics of them. They make thick rugs like I said.Making them all started with the need for a cushoined area around our counters on the floor for our dishes etc. We've got ceramic tile on the floor and eat off of some very old dishes we'd like to keep intact.....HaHa,as we are a clumsy pair.
I've tried to get her to make bows or even arrows or strings but she won't do it.

Some pics have been sent to me about the process of rug making. They take machine washing well also.

She puts about the same amount of time into a rug as I do brain tanning a hide.Depending on size of course.Around 8 hours.

Nice work.  I can see where those floors might be hard on fine china dishes >:D!

That's pretty cool.  I bet she could make you a warm ghillie suit for hunting.

I saw a woven blanket that was made out of strips of rabbit fur. The strips were cut in a spiral from the rabbit for max length. Looked warm :)

Some of the dishes we wanted to protect are 75 years old and hand painted. They must be quality made as they've hit the floor before before the rugs were there only chipping them.
She has a way of cutting holes into the ends of the strips and looping them together to extend the strips she is using.
If it's for the betterment of the house and our lifestyle I'm all for it.I use the excuse of shooting deer to eat and tan while making more bows.

Ed,
Is that a macrame style knot on the warps, or a straight warp-weft weave?  Either way it looks very nice!

Thanks fellas.
I think she cuts a short slit lengthwise on the end of each strip then connects the ends together for a continuous length of material with no knots.Makes for a smooth overall feel under your feet. The round rug pictured she did without a loom by hand in a macrome style I think.
She's the first woman I've met that does'nt have a problem with how a shovel handle fits in her hand.....lol.I've learned a lot from her fixing ideas she has to be creative.
