Title: R/D Monster Osage Tree Bow(2014 Classic bow)
Post by: blackhawk on August 04, 2014, 08:46:40 pm
My good pal Clint(osage outlaw) gifted me this stave at this years classic from the monster tree...this is the second classic in a row he has graciously given me a stave from the monster tree....thanks pal!!!! I left with a couple buddies Thursday after working all day and didn't arrive at twin oaks until about 2 in the morning....clint handed me the stave  and I started cutting away at it like a busy beaver, and clint and I stayed up working on our bows until sun came up the next morning, and then continued to be awake till late late late Friday.....ahhhh the classic...who needs sleep!!! Nuttin like a bowmaking n shooting marathoner  :P  8)  >:D  I did have this shooting late one night, but I put it on hold to finish it up until I got back home....it had a funky deflexed handle section that turned out at a different angle and was also severely pie shaped from the split that I needed to eventually build up the handle with several pieces of thin lams to have enough meat on the back side...well...life got super busy lately and I haven't been home much or had much shop time lately to finish much of any of my projects...sorry for the delay!! but here she is finally  :)

stats are 67" ntn...low 50's@28"....20 ounces mass weight....white oak lams to build the side of the handle...paduak tip overlays....teeny bit of prop twist yet as well

thanks again to clint for the fine primo stave  :D  :D  :D

That turned out awesome.  That handle build up is crazy but looks great.  Nice craftsmanship.  That late night in the bow shop was a blast.  So was our tired and hazy target rounds the next day  :P

I am not sure how you accomplished the glue up in that grip job, but it certainly adds character to the whole picture.  Great way to save the bow!  Kudos.

That is a fine looking bow Chris. I would like to try that style someday. I was so tired at the classic the first day from driving all night that I stepped off the one target from a tree stand like I was walking down a step, when it was about 3 ft. off the ground. I went rolling bow over quiver down the hill, I thought I twisted my knee real bad but worked it out pretty quick.

That handle patch reminded me of the Phantom of the Opera with the half face mask. Nice save with the patch and very nice bow. I remember that night at the Classic. I was probably up most of that night.  ;)

Ah yes, memories of Classics past.  That shoot-around after the all nighter was a hoot!  I didn't stay up all night for the bowmaking fun, but watching Clint the next morning repeatedly shoot a steel drum was hilarious!

Good looking bow Chris!  That handle is snazzy!

Thanks to everyone for the replies and comments ... It is appreciated more than ya know  :)

No chrony testing with this one Redhawk...although it shoots a wide variety of spine it seemed to really like the heavy hunting weight arrows...this is more of a good solid hunting rig than a barn burner..altho it does have pleasant cast

And to all who made classic comments... Lmao  good times!!! Gooooood times indeed!!!  ;D

That is a sweet one Chris.  I finally got to see the r/d you sent Juniper Junkie in last years bow trade.  This one looks like similar specs.  Very nice workmanship.  And full draw looks superb.

Classic sounds like a lot of fun...I have to make it out there someday.

Thanks again to all who commented :)

Hopefully things work out next year for elm hall drew  ??? Looks like y'all had fun this year...:)

Carson I believe this stave was either a sister, belly,or cousin to the bow I sent Dave...pretty sure it was in close proximation to it...they were dang near identical...and easy to make into r/d bows with almost a naturally grown shape..this one is 100% clean and not even one lil pin knot in the whole bow...prime piece of wood for sure
