August is traditional archery time at the Pine River Recreation Club in Elm Hall, Michigan. Located on 135 acres just nine miles west of Alma, Michigan, the Pine River Recreation Club is hosting its 22nd annual Stick Bow Shoot on August 5, 6 & 7, 2011.

Over the years the Stick Bow Shoot has become THE premier summer traditional archery event in Michigan and with good reason! The Stick Bow Shoot features Pine River Recreation Club’s famous hospitality, free primitive camping, campfires, great company and a super, FREE meal for campers on Saturday night featuring roast pork, venison, sweet corn, fire baked potatoes, a fish fry and more!

There are 28 3-D targets, including life size elk and caribou, in a realistic, wooded setting, that take the traditional archer through almost 1 mile of shooting situations and there is a 14 target broadhead course for traditional archers that love to shoot broadheads! Sorry - shooting is limited to recurve and longbows only. We also have the 2nd annual Kill Switch Tournament that a lot of people are talking about and are excited to shoot again, when the lights go out!

Admission for the entire weekend is only $25.00 for singles and $45.00 for families with children under 18 years of age and children 11 & under shoot free when accompanied by an adult. All admission fees include unlimited shooting on either target range. That’s right - UNLIMITED SHOOTING!

It’s hard to describe just how much fun this event is but there are participants that have been attending for the past 20 years, which says it all! Registration is available from 12:00 noon on Friday, August 5th, 2011, through 2:30 P.M. on Sunday, August 7th, 2011.

Post by: Pappy on June 10, 2011, 01:02:24 pm: Yep it is a good one, We should have a bunch of new targets to shoot also this year,they have bought one of the ranges from the IBO world,they will be down to the shoot in July to pick them up,me and at least 3 more plan on the trip North, so The Classic/IBO world and Elm Hall I will get to see this rowdy bunch 3 times this year.Very Cool. Great bunch of folks even if they are Yanks. ;) ;D ;D
Who knows they might even have there arrow back to show us the way around the course. Long story on that one. ;) :) :) :)

The range is a good one with a lot of laughter heard all over the range. The folks that put this shoot on really do a great job and go out of there way to make everyone feel at home.

Been reading Pappys thread. Going to have to look him up and thank him for the good read.

As yew see im undecided yet and threw that out there because I need some fat yellow sunny persuasion. Im already tempted because of the good times with friends,but I just need something to seal the deal. Catch my drift. ;)

not to mention the food. :) Hope the range is on the river side this year,never can remember from year to year,it always goes back and forth. :) Either side is good I just like the river side best. :) :)

There is a VERY long course, a shorter course for those that cant make the big hike, and a broad head course. I will be there Wednesday setting targets up. I will swing by your camper and have a cold one before I head back home. I cant wait to meet you and the crew. Have a safe trip up friend.

Rocky said he was going to feed us Wed. night, cool ,we can kick back and enjoy the company.I looked at the weather and it looked like 80's and 60's at night. :)

I spoke briefly with him but plan on having a full blown bow building conversation before the weekend is done. The long course is just amazing! Bring old shoes or boots! The grounds are in perfect shape for camping and hanging out.

Im down for some full blown bow building discussion. Lol. Last weekend me n hickorybill were at etar and sitting eating snacks talking bows and before we knew it, it was two hours later before we looked at the clock again. :laugh: actually it was non stop talking bows for two days straight.

Looking forward to coming up.....Chris

P.s. ill bring some yew billet wood for trade for some yeller wood.

I will have a back quiver with boo shafts and natural feathers, probably a skinned osage or hackberry bow. Im 6' 1" 210# with a short beard. I usually have a tan colored floppy hat on as well. I want to meet as many of the PA guys as I can, just gotta figure out who is who.

A buddy of mine said it was getting full fast already! This promises to be the best yet. Weather and bugs are no issue. We walked all over wednesday night trimming, hanging signs and setting targets and I think I swatted one skeeter the whole time.

Where else can you camp for a weekend and only need to bring one meal with you? Thats what Im talking about! Of course the 3d ranges were great as well, I loved that long course. Pappy....................you still owe me a round mister! I was soo busy BS'ing I only shot a few hundred arrows all weekend.

We had a death in our extended family and needed to stay in town over the weekend for the memorial and funeral. Hopefully I can find another Meet to attend before next years Elm Hall event...
