Here is a new bow I just made. It was a experimental design, with a reverse riser. It has a Raw bamboo back, osage core, and raw bamboo belly with black walnut accent stripes in the riser and walnut/osage tip over lays. It is 62" ntn and pulls 53#@28". I think it turned out pretty good. It draws to 28" very smooth, and shoots a arrow with authority, what do you guys think? :)

Now you are just messing with my head. Every time I look at the riser I go "OH CRAP" he's holding it backward. It is a pretty bow Pat. ;D Justin

looks like one FAST bow to me!

stunning. beautiful line, both, braced and FD. ryan needs to lock that boo away from you ;D
would you say a bamboo belly has advantages over an osage belly? or did you just want to try something new? is the belly bamboo tempered? i can barely imagine how difficult these r/ds are to tiller. i constantly had to go back and forth between braced and FD picture to see where it bends.

Awesome bow, definitely an eye catcher with the reverse grip
But ya need to open yer eyes when shooting ;) ;D

That's a fine looking bow and a sweat shooter as well, I think :)

Very nice bow

I think if you'd lined up the edge of the ponds in the background of the top two pics on the right ,I'da thought you and yer brother were twins!
Nice bow by the way. Don't see many like that.

Sweet bow! Tiller looks awesome, I just can't figure out how you fellas tiller a bow with a raw boo belly, all the nodes look intact. Do you tiller the belly core then glue up the raw boo?

wow... she's a beauty
great work

nice job on a sweet looking bow.
-
Wow, that is really something different. The tiller looks perfect. A real head-turner!

Pat that bow is awsome.

Thanks for all the nice comments. I really like the way this bow draws and shoots. it is very smooth and can easily be drawn to 29" with no stacking at all in a 62" bow. I am planning on building a recurve using this riser design when I get the time.Jbell and Dusty baer using bamboo on the belly makes for a much lighter limb with less mass. I do temper the bamboo on the belly witch greatly inceases the compression. This combo makes for a very durable limb that holds the tiller very well. Most of the tiller is made into the bow with the taper in the lams. and in the limb design. I do the final tiller by removing matrial from the sides of the limbs. Pat

Pat, great job on that bow, I was impressed that you used a conservative deflex reflex design on this one. I bet it shoots just as well or better than some of the more radical designs. Steve

;D Beauty Pat!

Pat that bow is excellent. You and Ryan definately got skills.

That is indeed unique, I really like the belly, how long did it take you to come up with the correct recipe to get you close on the tiller?

venisionburger I started out buy trying to take measurements from some of my bamboo backed bow and I came out pretty close on the first bow. I have try many diffrent combos before I really settled on one that I'm happy with. I can give you 1 tip I have better luck putting the reflex further down the limb than on a normal bamboo backed bow or you won't be able to tiller the limb enough and may end up with to stiff of out limb. Whew - these Guys From Dublin! Anyway Pat O has raised the bar for March Backed Bow of the Month with this fine bow. We'll see it again this weekend!

An all around awesome bow! Have always wanted to try that handle style. Great work...

i love the look of that bow and handle. You guys are going to force me to try backed bows one of these days ;D
-
very very awesome bow you got there pat! planning to hunt with it?
-
Thanks again for all the complements. Finnish native I may use it this spring for turkey, but I usually shoot a heavier bow a little better but I shoot this one pretty well. I never know what is going to be my shooter until closer to hunting season. Pat

Hey there bro looks like you might win the botm contest on you second post....you make me sick! lol..... ;)

Wow a natural materials Black Widow. Very nice.
Did you make sure you staggered the nodes on the back and belly lams? And how much do you sand down the nodes?
-
The great advantage to reverse handled bows is they are very stable and accurate to shoot . Compare a deflexed riser on a horse bow for example , a real handlfull to stop that riser torquing in your hand . Excellent craftmanship and design . regards Perry
-
Very nice, Pat! You make a great bow.
-
Great job. This bow has excellent design and workmanship. I have built some handle forward designs and I find that they are very stable because your hand is well ahead of the limbs as you draw. It also gives you a longer pull and less stack. I really like the bamboo belly and back. Great bow.
