What is your preferred glue for attaching snakeskin to limbs?
-
Tight Bond wood glue. I usually use TB 2 or 3. I add a few drops of water to the glue so I have a little longer working time before it dries
-
I like to also use titebond 3. I also normally size the bow with a coat of glue and let it dry before adding the skins since the skins are normally still pretty damp from soaking in water.
-
I've used TB glue for skinning many bows with good results. Now I use hide glue. I like it better.
-
Why do you like it better Pat?
-
What do you like better about hide glue?
-
Hide glue has "suck" as it cures conforming to the bows back better(IMO) because both the skin and the hide glue shrink as they cure.
-
I agree with Pat. Hide glue sucks.
He means it one way, I mean it another way! I find that it is more slippery and I struggle to get one spot to stay where it belongs while I move to the next spot. Your mileage may vary.
But he is absolutely right, it has a HIGH degree of shrinkage as it dries and pulls everything tight. No matter what you choose to use to put the skin onto your bow with, make sure you get all air bubbles out, squeeze out excess glue, too. But no matter what you choose....you gotta post pics!

If your skin goes down crooked or get wrinkles you can mildly heat the hide glue and it will gel so you can repair the problem. I've not done this but I have read others who have.
