This is my latest bow. Built it for myself for a new and improved hunting set for the season.
65" osage self bow
46# @ 28"
Mass of 470 grams
1-1/4" wide limbs, tapering to 1/2"
Mild Reflex / Deflex design that took about 1/2" of set
Cow horn nocks from a horn I found near my parents barn
Brain tanned deer leather grip
8 strand endless loop fast flight string, with beaver silencers
I gave the osage a dappled look using a water based stain
Arrows are gray dogwood shoots (520 gr and 600 gr total)
Stone points are from Stringman and weigh 140 grains
Hafted with deer sinew and pine pitch glue
Turkey primary fletchings
Case skinned raccoon quiver

Saaahhhhwwweeetttt rig A-a-ron. Love that length and weight.
-
That is an amazing set up Aaron. Good luck this season.
-
Perfecto Aaron. That weight is where its at. Really beautiful and well constructed.
-
Nice kit that will do the job
-
Wow I love this bow. Perfect combo of snakey stave and dead nuts tiller, with the beautiful stain and finish job. Oughta be a pleasure to hunt with. Nice work Aaron!
-
Great looking bow Aaron, not a single thing I don't like about that
-
very nice
-
Oh yeah! You have a very artistic eye and great finish work. I would have trouble remembering to look for deer if I was carrying that bow!
-
That set is super. Nice tiller. Love those arrow heads. Sure wish I could knapp.

Can't do any better than that Aaron, beautiful bow and tiller. Good luck out in the field!
-
Only thing missing in this picture is deer. Excellent set up, good luck.
-
Thank you guys, I hope this is this the year it all comes together. Unfortunately, I don't get to spend as much time in the woods as I would like. One of these days though...
-
Beautiful hunting set Aaron, looks perfectly crafted as well as being pleasing to the eye. With Scott's points and that killer tiller the odds will be stacked in your favor if your able to get enough time in the woods. Good luck, I hope the stars align for ya.
-
Man that set up came out really nice Aaron.I like it.Guaranteed to do the job if you do yours.Good luck Aaron.
-
That's a beautiful setup
-
Very nice set up Aaron, the bow, arrows, and quiver look great. Excellent work!

Awesome set up! That should help put some food on the table. Good luck! Cheers- Brendan
-
Aaron every one here can see the hard work you put into this nice hunting set. Congrats and get out there and get you a big deer.
-
Wow, very good looking hunting setup.
Nice work.
If looks could kill, you should have a couple of deer this year.
-
That should get the job done, beautiful, all of it. :)
Pappy
-
just awesome! beautiful set-up.
-
It's all been said, Aaron. Congrats!
-
A Fine looking setup indeed! Everything looks Very well crafted! My only concern is with the depth of the haft. Without the extra support of the shaft on both faces of the point's notches, IMO, the point will break at the notches, if it doesn't hit square on. Just my opinion! Good Luck on this years hunt! Craig
-
This is true, but then if his arrow isn't hitting square he's got bigger problems than the point. :-[
Shoot straight brother!
-
That's some fine looking workmanship Aaron. Hope you have a good season.
-
Really nice work. I have to agree about the depth of the haft on the arrows, also the pitch transition on one could use smoothing.
-
You guys may be correct about the depth of the haft. They may be better off hafted deeper.
As far as hitting square on, I like to bare shaft tune my arrows with the same weight field points to achieve proper spine, good flight, and straight penetration. This is what I did with these arrows before fletching. After fletching I continued to shoot them several hundred times to get comfortable and familiar with the arrows. When I felt comfortable, I removed the field points and attached Scott's points (same weight) and shot them many times over into a bag I have intended solely for stone. It is a canvas drop cloth that I sewed into a bag and is STUFFED with plastic grocery sacks. Nearly every shot these arrows blew completely through the 2' thick bag and into the dirt (i know, not the best thing for an edge) and I didn't have any issues with breaking one. Now, after several dozen shots, both points wobbled a little where the pine pitch glue was holding them, but I just reheated a set them back straight.
Bottom line is after all this, I feel comfortable using them as they are. But, I do appreciate the criticism.

Looks and sounds to me they'll [arrows]do the job Aaron. That bow of yours looks fast buddy.A couple of ounces under mass weight predictions.A good dry stave no doubt.
-
Oh, and if all else fails. I have my trade arrow from Pearl Drums in that quiver sporting a sourwood shaft and steel broadhead. It's batting clean up. ;)
-
Thanks Ed, for as heavy of an arrow as these are, they still fly pretty quick. It really spits out some 450 grain bamboo I have too
-
Lets hope it does'nt come to that....lol.Still a nasty deadly looking set up is what I meant.
-
They only have to work once, and my money says they will. A-a-ron go harvest some venison and post us a pic to gawk at, would ya'?
-
I'll do my best. I saw a young buck chasing a couple does last weekend. Both does came blasting by me at about 8-10 yards, but neither presented themselves with an ethical shot.
-
Fantastic set up. Best of luck hunting.
-
Aaron that is a sweet rig there. Great work all around.
-
Fantastic! Good luck poking a critter with one of those feathered bullets!
-
That is a gorgeous setup. Great work.
I want to use horn nocks on my next osage bow. I know most folks on here probably are experienced with how to install them--but could you elaborate a little on how you did that? I've got a couple cow horns on hand, but until I saw your bow I wasn't sure if they would suffice or if I would need to buy a block of horn from a bowyer supplier.
thanks, and again--great work.

BBS, when it comes to horn nocks, all you really need to do is shape the horn to your desired shape, make sure you have a very tight fit (no gaps or light between the two surfaces) and glue the horn to the bow with a good quality glue. I use a good 2 part epoxy or unibond 800, but some people prefer CA glue or even TB3.
I'm sure there is a how to on here somewhere, do a little searching
-
Aaron, Aaron, Aaron... great job (as always)... looks like you have gone all out (as always) and put as much time into your arrows as your bow. The quiver is a nice touch too, but please be careful carrying an animal fur quiver into the woods for obvious reasons... Looking forward to seeing this bow (and you) at MoJam.
Bob
-
Nice bow, got my BOM vote... even though it has that unnecessary arrow shelf.
-
Awesome set! That snaky bow looks great but the quiver and arrows are the real head turners! I really like the downy puffs at the rear of the fletchings. An added silencer I'll bet. I hope you stick a critter with those stone points!
-
Thanks guys.
RLimerick, I took the idea of the primitive arrow tracers from Bill (Danzn Bar), he has a build along under one of Osage Outlaws post at the top of the arrow page.
Thanks Bob, can't wait for Mojam already.
-
Aaron - This is quite an awesome setup! I really hope you get to stain those shafts with some fresh venison blood pigmentation. :)

-
Amazing craftsmanship. Absolutely stunning set of tackle you've got there Aaron.
-
Weehe, just found that gorgous set. Really great work Aaron.
Love the arrows as well as the bow and quiver. Arrow making is not my favorite job, looking at yours I get thrilled.
Good luck hunting!
-
That whole kit is top shelf ! Well done Sir! Josh
-
Perfect! That finish makes the bow look like an old artifact. And those arrows! Hope you get to harvest a good animal this fall.
