Title: Incredible gift/primitive weapon
Post by: Ranger B on July 31, 2009, 08:18:33 am
For the past 7 months we've been working closely with an SF AOB. Our compounds join and a close bond has developed due to living and executing missions together.

They are now departing and the commander just blew me away with a gift yesterday. It's an Eastern Indian gun stock club. They made it from Afghan rosewood and metal they beat down here. It's like the one in Last of the Mohicans. Thought you'd like to see.

You are very deserving of the gift.  I thank you for your service. I hope to get to talk to you and get to know you better. I only got to talk to you a little last  year at  Mark's during the big leaf fire.  Keep your head down.

Thanks guys. I took a few of them shooting on the archery range I had built here and they said it was their best day in Afghanistan. I taught them how to make bow strings as well, so they put their heads together and came up with a primitive gift. Man, I couldn't have asked for anything better.

What a special gift...made all the more special given to you for respect earned and in appreciation from men you've faced death with! That can't be improved on I'd say...

Thanks guys.

I got to shoot a little bit the other day.  When I've gone out with the guys, I'm all over the place and not concentrating. Just two of us went out right at sundown.  It had dropped below 100 degrees so it was tolerable  :) We just relaxed and shot and it was quite enjoyable.  I even shot well for a change.  I'm getting excited about coming home already.  I have 119 days left so there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  It's been a long year.

When you're gone for this long you have time to reflect on a lot of things. I find that it's easy to know what is most important to you in life - those things you miss the most.  The things that tug at your heartstings. Things like camping with the boys, explaining to my teenage daughters that boys, "Are just like that - stupid." Sitting on the back porch with my wife at sunrise watching the birds eat. Simple, but important things.
