Title: Need help fleshing bison hide
Post by: WhistlingBadger on November 06, 2021, 03:26:59 pm
I scored a few small pieces of bison hide that I want to bark-tan with the hair on.  Having a devil of a time fleshing them--this stuff is strongly put together.  I tried scraping with a knife at right angle, but when I put on enough pressure to remove the membrane, I score the hide.  Any tips?  The pieces aren't really big enough to use a fleshing beam, about one foot by eight inches or so.

Help me, PA oracle!

I'd use a beaver skinning knife that's ultra sharp on small pieces like that.If you've ever skinned beaver fleshing them while skinning them you'll know what I mean. It's a knife with a round tip.It can be done on a flat surface like that with a regular knife too.Just needs to be ultra sharp.
Good luck with your project.
