I’d like to hunt with a trad muzzleloader... Im not particularly spouting money ... and am inexperienced with metal and the like ... I more so want to hunt with a smoke pole then build one, but once again money .... the kits as I’ve read are pretty hard to put together as well I’ve read... so what do y’all recommend?

Are you looking for a percussion or a flintlock? Percussion generally costs less. Are you looking for Historically correct or just a " in the spirit of History" rifle, Historically correct generally costs more. Custom hand built rifles can be very expensive. When Inlines became legal to hunt with, many guys sold their percussion "In the Spirit of History" Hawken style rifles that they used for hunting. If something like that would meet your needs, you may want to look at a used percussion Hawken style rifle. Thompson Center made some very well made ones but those still command a higher price. Traditions made some percussion lock rifles with a synthetic stock that shot very well but did not look "traditional". My Wife still hunts with hers and they were very accurate (just did not have a nice wooden stock). Those can be picked up relatively cheap. Be sure to check it out for rust in the barrel regardless of the make. Scratches in the stock can be refinished but a rusted barrel probably should be avoided. Check out some Gun Shops and see what is out there.

There may a black powder club in your area. They often have members selling or trading stuff. Where are you? I can (or you can) check the NMLRA club list. Of course, bp is like pa, once you start, it is hard to let it go! You do need a bit more plunder to shoot a muzzleloader! :-M

I’m in Montgomery county va...I’m probly looking more towards percussion...I’m not worried about historically accurate necessarily, but I’d like something with a wooden stock, and the traditional “look”... thanks again guys

Do any of you know if the kits on 3 rivers is any good ? Or how close to finished they are ?

Look down a couple of threads, Sleek asked the same question. I gave a pretty complete answer.
Their M/L kits are pretty simple and standard assembly kits. Watch the Traditions assembly videos on youtube. Oh, you can get the same kit cheaper elsewhere.

The kits are out there, you just have to look around a little, the big places like Three Rivers probably don't sell many so they don't maintain much of a stock.
I do recommend percussion to get started, the performance of the Traditions flintlocks is iffy.
This one is a good bargain if it doesn't auction off too high, no bidders so far.

There must be a run on these things, the people who have them want top dollar for them. here is a Hawken kit (same as above) at a fair price and in stock.
