I've just started my newest paper mache project for next year's Tenn Classic raffle table. This is a toilet paper roll stuffed with news paper, styrofoam end plugs, covered with tissue paper and white glue and florist wires for other body parts

...or maybe like this. I'll take pics as I proceed and post them here

Very Cool
-
Thanks guys.
Russell, how did I do this?.....very slowly. That's why I'm starting now to be finished by April. ;D
My wife is an artist and paper mache is one of her mediums so I have professional help when I need it. :OK
-
Pat I just really always look forward to watching this. So fun to see it come to life.

Pat that is truly amazing. Hard to believe that is paper and glue!
-
Thanks BJ and Morgan. Paper mache is a cool material to work with along with structural materials like wire, styrofoam, cardboard and other stuff. My wife really makes cool stuff.
-
Pat you do amazing work
-
Way cool Pat ! Bob
-
Always love them Pat and thanks. :)

Looking forward to seeing this, Pat! Always enjoy your work. I like the subject this year.
-
It's for a good cause, Pappy so it's worth the effort.
Steve, thanks. I've been thinking about the "parting shot" for a while and now I think the rider should be a woman. Haven't had a woman subject yet.
This is going to be especially interesting because of the cloths worn by ancient horse archers. I'm going to try to get it as close as possible to being authentic like I have with the others.
-
Can't wait to see it, Pat. I always love seeing your artwork.
-
any chance we'll be able to see the progress?? im super interested!!!
-
Russell, I'll post pics as I go along. This is a slow process waiting for glue to dry so I can move on the the next step. Stay tuned! :OK
-
...here is more of the process. florist wirh is used to build and shape the base of the legs...
...wrap the wire legs with tissue paper. Every time tissue paper is used it is saturated with thinned white Elmer's glue.
...and I try to get the shape of the legs. They will get more shaping as I progress...
I use parts on another toilet paper roll with masking tape to shape the neck and head...

...as I go along I try to get the body and legs shaped and positioning just right. This is the difficult part of the whole build. If this doesn't come out right the whole project just won't look right.
...to be continued...
-
I'd ask you to do a diorama of me with a raptor, but you'd probably pick the moment that bald eagle took a bite outa my nose!
Thanks for posting the progress pics. I really enjoy seeing the progress art goes through to become what it eventually is.
-
Can I huh, can I huh, can I? ...and that would be the scene I'd choose. ;D Thanks for the inspiration and your sacrifice for the cause, John. :OK
-
Pat, I have some real horse tail hair if ya need some (grey) , If not I will just leave them on my tent pole :-T Bob
-
Thanks anyway, Bob but I can get more action with paper mache. It's less affected by gravity. ;)
-
Love this paper mache works Pat.
Never saw before the pappy gift. It's really fantastic! so much care for details.
What colours are you using? is that acrylic + protective coating or is it enamel?
-
Looking good Pat as always. ;)
Pappy
-
Pat, never thought of that , real hair would just be hanging showing no action or speed. Bob
-
GllsGlls, we use acrylic craft paint with satin poly sprayed over that.
Thanks guys.
-
I think JW's Eagle Encounter would be a very neat project! It has made into the annals of a song I wrote, albeit with a different hero.

Typical. All my best work ends up being attributed to other people's efforts.

Just a little update. She's coming along slowly but surely...

Always love watching Pat (-P
Definitely like that it’s going to be female to. Have seen some truly amazing pictures of women shooting bows from horses. They certainly have my respect.
