Two Comanche replicas of osage. The top bow and the one in the full draw pic is 50" tip to tip. It has a draw of 61# @ 23". It was made of a stave seasoned about 5 years. It had a thin ring of sapwood on the back that The lower sapwood was darker and multicolored. After being tillered and shot more than 100 times, it had no string follow. The bottom bow is 48" tip to tip and has a draw of 64# @ 22". This stave was seasoned less than a year and has a tad bit of string follow. The wood on this stave had dark red stripes. Used a stain to age the bows. The top bow is 1" at the handle and tapers to 1/2 below the nock. The bottom is 7/8" and tapers to 1/2. good design that yields a fast good shooting bow. The Comanche had a design that many bowyers today can appreciate. I'll post the other full draw later.
Thanks for looking

Two cool bows, I admire your work Chuck! That tiller is a stunner!
I have visited your homepage and seen all these beauties!
where do you get all the info on ancient bows?
I have the book from Mason, Baldwin, Hamm & Allely. Are there perhaps museums info probably with measurements?

Cool bows and very authentic. Is it replikas from the boook by Hamm and Allely? I have thought about a similar project. Comanche and Apache replikas in osage. Stunning bows. :D

Thanks everybody. Simson, I have collected all the books and info out there as well as examining bows from museums. The Encyclopedia of Native American Bows Arrows and Quivers" is the easiest way to get the stats to make a replica though.

Thanx for sharing the homage. Inspiring and impressive.

Thanks Chuck, I have this book. I have hoped you can point me to a museum homepage where native bows were listed with description and measurements 8). I never found a good site ....
