We are planning another gathering for the 12th of September at my home in Springfield, MO. We'll start early on Saturday morning (around 8 am) and work till whenever. If there is interest, we may continue over into Sunday the 13th.
All PAer's are welcome. Please let us know either by PM or post here on the PA site.
I'll fire up the smoker barrel and make meat for us all to share, (...so, I'll need to know how many to prepare for!). Feel free to bring whatever go-with-its you are inclined to have on the table and something you like to drink. There should be more than plenty!
We'll have at least one or two band saws setup, a stationary sander or two, a 6 inch joiner if you are wanting to work on LAMs, and various other big-boy-toys. We will have a few benches, but feel free to bring your own shave horse or vice bench as well as your bow building tools.
I'll have both a fire pit and shade tents at the ready so that we can deal with whatever the weather offers us. I have a smallish shooting range and archery target for testing whatever bows you bring, and we should have a chronograph available as well. We'll also have a couple of tillering trees with scales setup as well.
One fellow has already told me that he will be doing two sinew jobs that day at the gathering, so if that is something you'd like to get a look at up close and personal, come on over!
We are on the North edge of town, so nothing you might want is really too far away, as WallyWorld and Lowe's are just minutes down the road. My address is 1425 E. Smith Street in Springfield, MO. If you'll PM me I'll send you my cell phone number and try to answer whatever questions you might have.

Long range weather forecasts in the Ozarks are notoriously NOT very reliable, ...but for what it's worth, here's what the prognosticologists tell us to expect for the weather on the day(s) of the event! Me likey!!!

I'll be there with as much wood as can fit in my car...which isn't a lot. I'm excited though.

Patrick and I split out and made a couple of nice bow blanks out of the last gift you gave! Straightest grained hickory I've ever seen! It looks like we'll get 3 bows out of that one bit you gave us before it's all over!!! :)

Marines are generally late. They show up to "blaze the trail" right after the Rangers have secured their LZ for them. :P :o 8)
Onebow - who only wishes he could have passed Ranger school!
-
Thats because you guys make so much noise that you draw them in and then it's our job to keep the LZ open!
Patrick
-
I am planning on coming down there tomorrow! I will try to be there between 9 and 10. Patrick, please txt me if I need to bring anything.

Oh man what a good time. Honestly, I had more fun yesterday than i did at mojam. Thanks eric for hosting this. Your hospitality and food id over the top! ( especially the eats! )
-
True that Sleek! Had a blast and Eric is the host with the most. I'm sure his honey had a little to do with the success as well. ;)
-
Was there banana bread...?
Wish I could have made it there.

Fantastic day!
Weather perfect. Every power tool ya could possibly need. Brand new vice benches constructed. Great tiller tree setup. Target range. Huge shade tree.
And the food? Ohhhh, my goodness! Wonderful!!
Oh ... almost forgot ... strengthening friendships ... priceless!!! Thanks, Eric, for making it a great memory.
By the way, I was privileged to provide the initial fireworks. >:D :embarassed:
And we all know who REALLY won the shooting competition. :P

X2! Couldn't have said it better myself!
I want to say, the gathering was definitely the place to be this weekend! The hospitality was over the top! Eric and his wife are the most gracious people I know. They opened there home to all of us without hesitation. The new benches, food, shooting, conversation and the warm cookies were awesome! Eric and his wife are top notch and I'm lucky to be able to call them my friends!
Thank you all for a great day!

I wish I could have been there. It sounds like a great time. I just didn't have the time this time. It sure would be nice to see some pics though... O:)
-
They say you can tell if a party was a good time by the things left behind by those that attended. Here are a couple items that need to find their ways back home. One looks like a lady's clutch purse, ...but I didn't recall that we had any ladies attending the event...
...and the leather arm guard sans laces was found under a chair.
Not pictured are a pair of lovely shade tents that I know where they need to go home to... ::)
...and the last picture is about the fourth wheelbarrow full of shavings that were returned to the flower nutrient state known as wood ashes last evening.

Wish I could have made it there.
Oddly enough, we did start the day off with a plate of Banana Nut bread, (with blueberries this time), and coffee!
Hopefully the next one can work for you sir...

Left my purse behind??!!!
-
Dave, wish you could have been there too! It was a great time!
Eric, I know where those canopies belong and the arm guard. I guess we should have watched our a little better for Mikes purse.
Glad you found everything! And sorry about all the wood shavings we left!

I sure had a fun time meeting everyone....and the food was great

Here are a few pix from the gathering this weekend. We had a GREAT time and I'm already looking forward to when we can do it again...
First Pic - Knoll started things off with a BANG!
Second Pic - JonW Tillering like a true primitive bowyer (aka - using whatever works best!), ...with a belt sander :)
Third Pic - J05H showing off how long of a curl he could make.
Fourth Pic - Patrick working wood.

Second Pic - ...they looked up for a second. I think somebody mentioned lunch.
Third Pic - Sleek and my brother Nathan solving the world's issues thru conversation under a shade tree.
Fourth Pic - Knoll looking very serious about his Red Oak repair effort.
-
...and yet a few more. -OneBow
First Pic - Patrick holding forthe on the finer points of Sinew application with hide glue. Mike looking on with a slight measure of incredulity.
Second Pic - One of the Ash trees that served as our shade, also did duty as Sleeks personal armory.
Thrid Pic - ...a group Pic we snapped after lunch. Sadly Patches had already left for home and my nephew RJ had yet to arrive, so they are not pictured...
-
Thanks Eric for hosting this get together! I had a good time. The food was EXCELLENT!!! I did not know that there were cookies though.... :-[
It was good getting to see everybody and meet a few new people.

Thanks a bunch for the pics Eric! I don't think I took one pic all day. I just wasn't really feeling like myself. Thanks so much again for all you did bud! Patrick
-
Pat, the story the pic tells about you sinewing that bow looks like your describing how you use bunny rabbit sinew. Stuff off the back legs is best.
-
Not a single crazy pic with the chrono? Slightly ticked or its two cousins? Or Jo5h shooting his 80# bow with an arrow weighing only 320 grains?
-
Looks like a good time was had by all.............but Mike you look like the senior in that group and you need to hold your own. Did you guys do any shooting?? >:D ;D

Mike more than held up his end, and earned a bit of the RESPECT us OLD guys require Bar! :) ...but a new kid that could not get two consecutive arrows into the target somehow lucked-up and hit this tiny little 100 point spot on the target and took the High Score! Grrrr...
Sleek - I failed to get any pix of all that good stuff. I was kinda hoping J05H would post that video of you going nutz and some of the Chrony pix.

Chronologically, I'm definitely the senior. Experience/skillwise, I'm definitely a newbie. I got lucky and shot ok ;)
-
Sleek definitely went a little nuts. He's an excitable fellow.
Here's a link to the video. I'll go through my phone and see if I have anything else to post, but I think that's all I've got.

P.S. I'll pick up my bracer next time I'm in town.
-
That was nuthin when I hit 200! I was trying to compare this bow to Patrick's " Fury ". He had shot 199 with an arrow about 100 grains heavier but Fury weighed 13# more and had 2" more on power stroke. Using that bow as a measuring stick, I believe I surpassed it. Not taking anything from that amazing crafted bow in the least, thats why I was so happy to have done so well.
Whats interesting is I built two more and neither seemed to out perform slightly ticked ( pictured in this video ), though I didnt really shoot them as much, working on my release to get max speed. Maybe next time.
-
I'm proud of you buddy! You accomplished exactly what you sat out to do on the first try. Not everyone can say that.
By the way, you are crazy!
Patrick

<snip>
By the way, you are crazy!
Patrick
I've had two neighbors come over and ask about the jubilation Kevin expressed upon hitting 200 thru the Chrony. ...neither was complaining at all, in fact one said it was good to hear "someone so completely happy about what they were doing", ...so he had to come ask what we had been doing!
OneBow
-
Dang man, Kevin is even getting the neighbors involved in his antics!
Patrick
-
Heck yeah! I put so much energy into what I do when I'm done even the neighbors come out to smoke a cigarette.
