as I look at the snow this couldn't start soon enough guy. sounds good thanks for setting it all up
-
Floyd Wells is also going to be bringing his arial targets and thrower this year so we will be organizing the camping in the back field to make room for that !
its a blast so get prepared for the fun!
He will bring fluflus for us to shoot so don't worry if you don't having them.
-
Guy, what is a WAA event? Never mind, looks like I found it. :>)
-
Sorry
World Atlatl association
-
I wanted to be sure it wasn't Wide A** Association, I didn't want to run into my ex-wife. ;D
-
Get me her address and I will be sure to send her an invite !! >:D
-
When the wind is blowing South, you'll know what her address is! :D You'd have to charge her extra parking fees!
-
I plan on making it to this, even if I have to call in to work! I'm quite excited for it.
-
Hope it works out for you Jackson
Be sure to introduce yourself around when you are here !!!!
-
Starting to get a few projects wrapped up and hope to start working on some things for Marshall .
It will be here before I am ready for sure, but no matter we will have fun!!!!!!
-
Only 60 days till we start the fun !
( had to delete the last post I got to excited and skipped a week counting the days)
-
Looks like I might even have some materials to bring for building bows, so getting quite excited.
-
Looks like I might even have some materials to bring for building bows, so getting quite excited.
Sweet ! Good to hear that
I am getting fired up myself!
-
Guy any idea where the areal target range will be out back? I ask only because my "crew" is usually there plenty early and as you know we have our little niche back there we fill up. We don't want to be in the way of you guys or have to move.
-
Chris
I will be there to check it out and make sure before the rest of you
When you get there we can lay it out to be sure we have room and talk it all over
my thought is to shoot from near where the lane opens into the field toward the cross corner so if it works out no problem for the side where you have been camping
if it does not come out like I am thinking it should
we just don't do the arials
you know it's all about having fun so no stress
I have been looking for others to talk it over with
does your memory say we have room or not ?
its kinda hard to measure it from here so I am just going off of memory
if you don't think we can do it I will call him and tell him not to bring them
-
Don't cancel it on our account. I think if you shot from just inside the opening and to the left, it would be fine. We'll just have to check it over and adjust, aint no thing but a chicken wing! Of course if more folks show up to camp it may be too full back there, and that's good to! :)
-
Ya Chris That is the thing that has me wondering if we should do aerials , folks seem to like to spread out in the back field and I am not sure if we should give up the potential camping spots
We do have other places to camp just seems folks like it there
The folks that want to come join in the fun is growing daily and that is a good thing !
Maybe this will force us into opening the other camping area that has not been used for several years !
Hope to see ya all soon
-
There's plenty of room for arials IMO.
I got a better idea...how bout Human Aerials. Someone bring a catapult that can launch a human into the air into the pond, and as there flying thru the air we all throw soft blunt tipped flu flus at him in the air. Hell..I'd be guinea pig first for that. >:D
-
Hey Hawkster, there's an idea! We can have a group effort build on a catapult!
Looking forward to Memorial Weekend!
-
Now that's using your head for something besides a hat rack !!
We may just have to take a run at it !
Not sure this old body would stand up to very many tosses
Are we there yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????
-
Hey Hawkster, there's an idea! We can have a group effort build on a catapult!
Looking forward to Memorial Weekend!
I've built a couple of trebuchets now, the first one was nothing but logs and twine. Heck of a lot of fun, and I'm starting to know what the geometry should be for all that stuff.
-
Quick question - is the camping area suited for hammocks, or should I bring a tent?
-
Probably better bring a tent, if you want to use a hammock you may be farther away from the action than you wanted to be .
-
38 days yet ?
Way to long!
What am I forgetting to get ready ?
Anybody have anything special you want me to bring or do ?
How many knappers are we going to have do we need more tents for shade ? LOL
Hate to see them poor rock crushers out in the weather!
I will be there sometime wed . unless someone needs me sooner best let me know soon
SEE YA THERE
-
Id bring my hammock in a flash if we had two trees to hook it to that aren't on the 3d course! Guess Ill just have to stay in my travel trailer again...... :)
-
We have two for you Pearly just not on the same side of the creek is all >:D
It would be just like waking up at the Classic after the ----
We need to find a way to get to Marshall more often !!!
Se ya soon

Jackson...
A canopy might come in handy....some of us that camped in the back field (on the wrong side) got sun burned.... ;D
Have you ever seen a burnt Osage Outlaw :o ....Badly Bent was on the shady side, so if you don't have a canopy you might want to look him up.... ;D
DBar
-
Sounds like a plan then. I think I'm going to end up taking the van instead of the sedan! Certainly will be easier to bring bows in.

Its not a pretty site
-
Im going to beat greg there and steal his camp spot >:D
-
Hey Paul,
I think you and Pearly were there before Greg last year.....Maybe Greg just knows where west is...... :) ;)
DBar
-
following pearly's lead is never a good idea
-
Your right D-bar, they were there before me, now that they know which direction is west I guess I'll have to leave home earlier this year to beat the pirates to my shady spot.
-
Buncha' sissy girls......I'll bring some 50 spf
-
My northern european ancestors have left me pasty and fearful of the day star. I'll bring 80spf.
-
Good to see you folks checking in
Only 36 days now
If I can remember to bring the caution tape I will tape off that sunny region so you folks wont get hurt by that big ball of fire in the sky!
-
Have been looking forward to Marshall rendezvous alllll winter. But just realized Marshall and my hs class reunion are same weekend! At our "advanced" age, there likely won't be many more reunions and/or attendees. :(
If I go to the Marshall event, will need to leave Sat morning. Will alot of the PA gang be there Wed, Thu, and Fri?
-
Yes sir !
especially Thursday and Friday
-
Knoll
Glad to hear your coming it's been a while since Missouri has had a rep at Marshall unless I missed someone!
safe jorneys and see ya there!
-
Obtaining a visa is not for the feint-hearted.
-
I hear ya Knoll
I never do get thru that process for Missouri
Anyway see ya soon in Tennessee and then just 3 weeks later in Marshall
In just 9 days the Tennessee Classic will be over and we an all head north to get ready for Marshall !
The excitement builds !
I will se some of you up there in just 26 days !
Man am I pumped up !
-
I think I may just tent it this year. I love my little mini trailer for the shower and fridge, but the club has a great shower room and why not use it right? Plus, it got old last year having Pauly knocking on my door at 3 am to let him in because he is scared to sleep in his tent.
-
Sorry to say that i'm not going to make it to Marshall this year, my wife had the crazy idea of planning a vacation that week but her plans did not include Marshall,,,,,WTF????? We'll have a family meeting over this.
Anyway I won't be there this year, but I will be as the TN Classic this weekend and will start planning to be at Elk Hall. Pearl, do you have the dates for that one?
You guys have fun and based on the banter, you might want to plan all nocturnal events to avoid getting toasted.
Ed

the last place I would want to sleep is in that yuppie express you got. it is good for taking a shower when your stinking though
-
Ed, Elm Hall is July 31-Aug 2. We will mail out or email flyers to everybody that registered last year.
Knocker, my shower still stinks after you used it, bleach didn't even work. Im trying ammonia next. If that doesn't work Ill replace the whole stall.
-
PD- The offer still stands to bring the wall tent down Wed. night. Gotta break that sukka in somehow.
-Dan
-
Im game if you are Dan-O! Maybe knocker can keep your cot warm until you come back?
-
We'd probably have to torch the thing when it's over, but I bet we could squeeze him in there.
-Dan
-
Thanks Chris, I'll mark my calendar for Elk Hall!
Also, this weekend at the TN Classic I plan to finish the bow that you've been coaching me on. If I limit my socializing, and get some work done, I'll post some pics when it's shooting. Just have to finish the tillering and handle shaping, then it will be ready to shoot!
Ed
-
Leave that keg alone and ya' got a shot Ed! Ill see you in August my friend.
-
Dang, this is coming a week sooner than I though it was. I can't wait.
-
No keg this weekend Chris, too busy to brew :-[.
I will make sure to get a keg going for elm hall. Just have to make sure that I stay out out of it .
Let me know if you,. Paul and the others want the same style I made last year , or if you want something different.
Take care,
Ed
-
Just coming from the classic I'm excited for this one...although I'm a lil sleepy this morn. 8)
Can't wait to see yins guys :D
-
Sorry tohear your not gonna make it Ed , had I knowen that I would have taken a break to talk to ya a bit more in Tennessee !
Wow what a time down there !
Now I gota get cracking for Marshall as its only 18 days away now and less than that forsome of us !
Hope I recover quick from all that traveling , so I can get things ready
See ya there !!!
-
two weeks and two days for me and I'll be there. can't wait
-
The Wife finally figured out that I'm doin' one of these events for 4 straight months (actually, she doesn't yet know about Cloverdale). Thought she might "suggest" cutting back. Instead, she observed how obvious it is that I'm getting good deal of pleasure from this hobby. Soooo, am looking forward to the end of the month!
-
2 weeks till the fun begins !
Wonder how many bows we will do this year?
Even more important are the liftime friendships that will be formed !
I don't get any better than this .
I plan to be there on Wednesday so come on out and see me .
-
Guy, you were telling me on the phone we might do a broadhead shoot on the 2d targets. Is that still true? Just thinking may want to get the word out so people show up with them.
-
Yes I want folks to bring broadheads to shoot on the 2D course , just need someone to step up and take charge of it , hope Mark Butler does but he seems to be mia right now hope he shows soon
Also Floyd cant come so no aerial targets as we had hoped for
Everything else seems to be on track for lots of fun!!
See ya soon !
-
Been a rough couple weeks at work, with a couple in the way yet, so I'm really looking forward to this. I need to get shooting my longbow again. The recurve just fits better in the basement.
-
Don't forget Jackson, all wood bows. You'll get a funny look carrying a glasser around.
-
Hope everyone is ready as it's almost time to go
the fun begins in 12 days !
-
This will be 1st trip to Marshall. Often do cooking over open fire, but can use charcoal when open fires are discouraged or fuel not plentiful. Should I plan on bringing the charcoal bag?
-
Are we doing a Saturday potluck dinner again? I'd like to know in case I need to bring something ???
-
it sure sounds like it to me Chris. pearly and I are bringing some shoulders to put on the smoker so I imagine Guy got the same plan as before
-
Got my two butts on order at the "Ol' Mans Meat Shoppe"!
-
Knoll , there should be wood available for open fires
Chris , yep Sat night potlock with pork provided by Chef Pauly !
I will make chili for anyone thats here in time to eat it on thursday eve.
-
I'm packing light this year. If somebody can give me a ride to a grocery store I can pick up whatever is needed for the dinner.
-
You mean your packing heavy, just not food.
-
Yes. Just not as heavy as I did a few weeks ago
-
K...the Mrs and I will make sure to bring something....we should be there about 8 next week Thur eve :)
-
Yeah, the all wood thing is the reason I need to get shooting the longbow.
Boss is making threatening noises about having to work Memorial Day weekend, so that's unfortunate. I'll find a way to be there though.
-
We'll be rolling in friday night, would like to be there sooner but bringing the grandson and have to wait till schools out for him to hit the road. Wish I could get there a day earlier but not gonna work out that way.
So it looks like we won't be there for a long time,......but we'll be there for a good time. ;)
-
Being a good Grandpa is also important
Good job Greg!
See later
-
Cool Greg, Ill be glad to meet the little tiger. See you guys soon.
-
Don't forget your cameras guys and don't forget to use them. ;)
-
Don't forget your cameras guys and don't forget to use them. ;)
If ya wanna see what its like I reckon your best bet is to drag your long beard up there. :P
-
I'm hoping to do that one day.
-
I'll share a smoke with you Pat, and a beer.
-
Recent change in plan for me... could be there as early as noon on Wednesday 8)
-
That is about what I am thinking for me too Paul !
Let the fun begin !!
-
Lookin good.

-
Cooler the better for me. 70 is a good max for the day time.
-
I was talking to my good looking sidekick last night and wondered aloud about the possibility of camping in MI that weekend. Bless her heart, she was ready to go, but didn't want to miss a prior engagement... Thought I had a chance there for a moment. ::)
You gents have fun, and maybe I'll get up there next year.
-
Temp's sounds great for this Danzn Bar.... :) :)
Will miss ya Scott
-
Save the date for next year Scott. You will have a great time. I promise.
-
Prognosticators are even more positive.

-
I had my dates all mixed up talking with my boss yesterday. I blame lack of sleep. For some reason I had been thinking this was the weekend afternext, but I'd asked for the 21st and 22nd off of work and thought I'd screwed up. Turns out I did it all right and was just brain dead yesterday. Still looking like I'm going to make it.
-
two days of work for me this week and I'll be there :)
-
My oldest graduated today......feels weird to even type. Anywho, Ill be down Thursday a.m.. Unless I find a way to get 7 days of chores done in 2 1/2 days, or the warden allows me a "Good Behavior" Wednesday night leave.
-
give me her phone number and I'll make it happen if you can't
-
Are you capable of good behavior Chris?
-

better beg Chris as from the chatter we are going to have a big showing
alot of new folks are on the way from all over this country
maybe Paul can save an inch or two for you >:D
-
Congrats, Pearl, on the graduate! See ya'll in few days.
-
Thanks guys, he is good boy and Im quite proud of him and his friends. I was painting at 9 o clock last night after a 12 hour day already, Im trying to get caught up enough to leave out Wednesday.
-
I too am painting furiously. A quiver. ;D
-
Guy can you stick a sign in the ground where the road branches off to the club? Ive passed it every year since I started coming down! No big deal until I started hauling a camper and had to get it turned around down the road!
-
don't worry princess I'll roll out the red carpet for you
-
I already assumed that treatment, deservingly so, but I need to get to said red carpet first.
-
Looks like the sheet show has already started....Are we there yet? Can't wait!!! 8)
-
I'll give the wake-up call Thursday morning. You will have the same treatment I got in boot camp. >:D
-
I'll give the wake-up call Thursday morning. You will have the same treatment I got in boot camp. >:D
go for it !
anybody heard from Ryoon lately, hope he has time to stop in
man what a flury of activity the last few days!
hope you folks are ready to teach cause the students are coming
passing it on in a big way this year!!
-
who are all these students Guy?
-
Folks wanting to make themselves a bow from a stick of wood !
And all the other fun stuff we do!!
-
Is anyone bringing a belt sander?
-
If I can make it, which I infuriatingly still don't know, I will be rolling in Thursday afternoon/evening.
-
Is anyone bringing a belt sander?
I had hoped to but out of room.
Maybe Matt will?
-
It's amazing how much crap I've packed for a few days in the woods.
-
Clint ... belt sander loaded, along with some 60 & 100 grit belts. It's in a jig to make usable horiz or vertically.
-
Yall behave your self's, and have fun. I am sure you will do that. :)
Pappy
-
Travel mug filled w/ coffee. About ready to launch.
-

Thanks. I might need to do some tip overlays.
-
Sissy's and their belt sanders.....................ever hear of a rasp and sanding block? ;)
-
Dropping off the Little Woman and Li'l Dan tonight, after work. She's extremely resourceful but, may need a hand at some stuff. I'll be back in on Friday as soon as I can leave the grind. I was able to get a few blanks made; I'll leave with her or Guy. The Classic cleaned me out.
-
I can take care of anything she might need help with Matt. Tell her to wave me down if she needs me!
-
Thanks, Drums!
Are any of the early birds bringing a bow scale setup?
-
I can toss one in if we need it.
-
If you have room, Drums. If not, I'll dig mine out and bring it.
-
No problem, its laying right on the garage floor.
-
If anyone is interested in a jojan 6 fletching jig in LW, a cresting lathe, or a set of LW and RW shield cut feather choppers let me know. I have a friend who is getting rid of some of his archery stuff. PM me for details by tonight if you are interested. I can bring them with me.
-
Well, it's official, I've got the time off. I now have 8 hours of work to get through, then some sleep, then packing and driving.... Hopefully I can get there around this time tomorrow.
-
The low Friday night is 38 :o. I might be looking for somebody to snuggle with. ;D
-
Set up camp for the "Little Woman" and Dan, last night and left them on their own. Great to see already, The Bittermans's, Marty, Guy and the Gaults (all however many of them :) ). It's killing me not to be there until Friday.
-
It's killing me not to be there until Friday.
I hear ya Matt, we can't roll in till Saturday...sucks!
I'm sure the boys already there, will blow up my phone with texts and make work even more unbearable! >:D
-

I'm sure Danzn Bar will let ya >:D
-
Have lotsa pics to share, but at Mom's place for several days and her "technology" is kinda primitive. ::) So it will likely be some days before I get the pics on here. Thanks to the PA attendees had sooooooo much fun! Definitely on the "gotta get to" list for next year.
-
Had a great time ................... lots of bow building, shooting, BS'ing around the camp fire and eating of some good food. Great bunch to be around!! Want to thank Guy and all of the club members for a mighty fine shoot and gathering. Enjoyed it last year, but I believe I enjoyed it more this year! I'll be back for sure.
Thanks again!
Till next time
DBar
-
What a great weekend! It was nice to spend some time with my northern friends. Guy, thanks for all the work you do to put on this shoot. Wizard Goat, Pearly, and Blackhawk: thanks for the help on the vine maple and yew staves. Bill, thanks for the ride and the meals. I had a great time shooting and visiting with everybody this year. It was nice to put a couple more PA names with faces.
I was able to get a few pictures this weekend.
Greg was showing off his new hair piece. You can't even tell its not real ;D

Looks like a great time had by all, i didn't know pearlie was a man purse kind a guy :o

Im with Bill, this might have been my favorite so far. The weather was spotless and cool. I love that. I actually worked on a bow for a few hours and got it done, that felt good. Ate like kings, as usual. Meeting a few more PA guys was great. Met goat and his bride, GREAT people and very glad they stopped by. Bowmo and Jackson Cash also made it in, good dudes and good times for certain. As usual, I left woth more staves than I arrived with... :)
One small piece of advice, don't think your going to out-shoot Mike (knoll), it aint happnin'. Guy missed the kill zone maybe one or two times over 30 shots. And those few that where off a bit still would have done the job.
I took 3 pictures and aint none of them better than what Clint put up.
-
Great pics, thnx Clint!
-
Thanks for the pictures and up date Clint, looks like a good time had by all. Pappy
-
Had a killer time. An awesome place, awesome people, and awesome energy.
Really nice to put some faces with the handles on here, and to find out you guys are all weird in person as you are on here ;)

Great time as usual. Weather pretty much perfect. Some of my best friends and only hung out a handful of times with these guys. Lots of cooking, bow building, shooting and hanging out. Only took handful of pics.

-
Pearlie exaggerates on the shootin'. I got lucky a couple times.
-
Knoll: you lie
And man....what kind of person would leave his drawknife behind. For shame. That's like leaving your dog behind. Tisk Tisk. ;D
-
Looks like the poor fella spent a lot of time making those spankin' new handles. Shame ol' Dan-O gets to beat on her until the rightful owner comes along.
That hackberry looks like it turned out nice, too bad I had to leave before the tillering took place. Looks like it needs some tweaking...... :)
-
Pearlie exaggerates on the shootin'. I got lucky a couple times.
Liar Mr. Mike......you handed it to all of us, even with jabs coming from the left and right. Your a heck of a shot my friend, especially with that cheezy red oak board bow!
-
Oh man. Don't tell me mike brought that thing with him! And then you let the worst shot in Missouri beat you all? I guess I'm going to have to come there next year. You can teach me to make bows and I'll teach ya how to shoot em.
-
I had a great time. Everybody is so freindly it makes it a fantastic weekend. Thanks to everyone who makes this shoot happen. Can't wait for next year.
-
Great weekend, as always really enjoyed seeing my PA friends again. My grandson had a blast, wore me out with his shooting from morning until dark. We stayed through until 10:00 am this morning so he could get the most out of the experience, shot the big course again before we left and when we got home a couple hours ago he grabbed his bow and went straight out to the back yard to shoot more. I think I can safely say
the kid shot 700+ arrows in 2 1/2 days there, he felt he had to empty his quiver at every target. :)
Thanks to the folks at Marshall who made it all happen, it was a real nice event in a beautiful setting.
I got some pics., will load them and post shortly.
-
I can't over state how much fun I had this weekend. The generosity that everyone showed was awesome, both with material goods and knowledge. It was great meeting everyone, and I will have some pictures up soon.
-
Once again had a great time, the weather was perfect and everyone was so friendly. Got to meet Paul and Clint , nice to meet PA guys. Picked up some nice osage, snake skins from Gary and a hickory backed hickory blank from Chuck at twotracksbows. Can't wait for next year.

Great pictures guys. Thanks for sharing. How old is that boy Greg? He looks like he is having a ball.
-
He just turned 6 yrs. old Mike, the kid wore me out with all the shooting. ;)
-
He was a really well behaved and cool little guy. I really enjoyed watching him catch the bug and shoot.

Just getting back to the grind. Had a great time at Marshall this year, as usual. Thanks for posting the pics of the hackberry scalloped bow. The late Saturday night antics were a hoot!

What kind of self respecting man would do that?
-Dan
-
I don't know Dan. I think the purse matched his bed spread though.
-
I forgot to mention P.Newtons bow. I think that is the fastest shooting selfbow I've ever seen. The targets would shake and dust would fly when his arrows hit them. That thing was impressive. I'm pretty sure he could deer hunt with blunt tipped arrows this fall.
-
Good pics so far !!!!!!
Keep them coming
Someone left a jacket behind and I have it if you need it let me know, otherwise I will try to bring it back next year see ya then!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Was it a fleece jacket with a zippered front collar?
-
Dang Matt, you loose another or just don't know where you lost the one. :o ;) :)

Thanks for the compliment Clint. I can't take too much credit though. I showed up at Marshall last year with a MWirwicki bow blank and I received valuable help and advice on tillering it, between there and Elm Hall. Thankfully I didn't ruin it finishing it up. It is a nice shooter. I had a great time shooting with everyone this year, loads of fun and fantastic people. Thanks to everyone posting pictures, helps with the memories.
-
Welp, the rocks on the 3-d course kicked my arrows rears. I was quickly forced to borrow some. ::)
Next year I will be better prepared.
Cane arrows inspired by the toughness of Pauls hill cane arrows, and the spottability of Dan's pink fur tracers.
I will probably still break and lose them but at least I have a few new ones.
