Have been scratchin away at this one all summer and finally buckled down and finished ‘er up. Nothin fancy just a simple selfbow. 65” ntn 45# @ 27”, simple buckskin wrap on handle and thats about it. Tillerin was a bit tricky what with the humps and bumps but I’m happy with it. It will definetly see some treestand time this season

One more, still learnin the nuance of proper heat for the branding iron

Very nice bow, Stix. And, the wavy gravy reference brings me back to 1969. 8)

I beg to differ. That bow is not simple, and has plenty of fancy to it. Beautiful, well done.
-
Agree with Hamish, plenty of beauty there. I can definitely see how it could be a tricky one to tiller.
Very nice work.

Very nicely done. Good luck this season.

Beautiful character selfbow. Love the dips and curves. Nice bend also.

Nothing harder for me than wavy grain. Excellent job on that stick. Great looking bow!

Very nice character bow! And yes that came from a caul with good design.

Beautiful. Will you please post any pics of that stave before you started shaving on it? I want a wavy back Osage stage to try, but I’m obviously not cutting any wavy Osage trees! Need to know what to look for. Thanks.

Sometimes you can tell the grain by the pattern of the bark, on a standing tree.
It's not full proof though. I cut a wavy/snakey grain osage log. I was sure this was going to produce a motherload of beautiful snakey character staves. The problem was the grain of each ring ran opposite to the next ring. The log couldn't be split cleanly, or reasonably straight. It just wanted to tear itself apart across the length at a 45 deg angle, no propellor twist. I sawed it up into 2" thick boards, and gave them 3 coats of pva glue all over. Despite that it still checked badly on the faces, due to the exposed cross grain.

Sorry, I didnt take any before pics. This was a stave I got from osage outlaw a couple years back

Nice stick Stix
-
Very nice side profile!

Oh yeah, nice and trippy! I love that li'l stinker!
BTW: Where did you get your brand? I have been thinking about having one made up for my bows after someone sanded my inked brand off the bow and tried to sell it as their own.

JW, I believe the company is called Best Brands. A quick google search of brands will get ya there
