This is very much an experimental bow.
I made a shootable bow in a day at the club's Beltane festival. It was a horrid twisted bit of Hazel, but it made a shootable bow (~50# @ 26").
I decided to experiment with some pretty harsh recurves in an attempt to get 'em rolling over right at full draw to get a feeling of let off like a compound (spits on floor).
You can see in the full draw shot the string isn't quite lifting off the recurves yet, it's been tweaked a bit since then... but that's all part of the experiment.
The tips were done by thinning them, steam bending and then adding another steamed curved lam' onto the belly. I had to steam the tips to take out twist too.
The FD shot was taken a while ago, the final finishing seemed to weaken that lower limb which I've since heat tempered to bing it back.
The real point is the paint job, some old black and brown acrylic rubbed onto string and pulled over the back.
I'm not a great fan of paint jobs (there have been some stunning exceptions to this recently posted) but I do like abstract art.
I though what could be more primitive? To me it has that spontaneous feel of 'put your hand on the cave wall and spit ochre over it'.
Maybe it's a love it or hate it thing, I don't mind either way, so feel free to be scathing if you want.
It was fun to try paint on wood with a bow I'm not worried about experimenting with.
I don't really know the finished stats as it may be an ongoing experiment that never actually finishes.
Hoping to shoot it at a 3D meet next weekend... dunno if it qualifies as 'primitive' (the paint job may help ;) )
Fuller details, build along etc on my blog as usual starting with this post.

Looks pretty cool to me. Nice curves. :)

Ofcourse its primitive, its still just a stick and a string! ;)
Really like it too!

I think it's nice Del. The recurves look good at full draw and the paint is not too much. But then again I like painted bows most of the time.
-
Doesn't look so twisted now, the bow itself that is. The paint job maybe a little might be a little shagadelic but I like it. Hows it shoot for you Del, she has a nice looking bend.

Cheers for the comments guys.
She shoots pretty well, and feels fast, mind I've only tried it at 10 yards into the garage. Can't be bothered to set up the chrono.
I'll get a good feel for it at the weekend.
It's an absolute pig to get the sting onto it, I have to do the step through method, and even then it's a bit of a heave.
I'm thinking of rebuilding my force draw curve plotter, it would be interesting to see it's dynamic FD curve.

Sexy hooks on that sucka.....and nice "80's" art...lol
-
Far out bow Del... ;D
-
Love it! Who know a bow could be brutish and sexy at the same time?! That baby is definitely "bout business"!
-
Nice Del. Not Much for painted on bows myself but that looks cool.
-
Nice, sweet bend on that one, Del. :)
-
I like it, that's some crazy bends.

thats a real test of skill, and steaming to the extreme. I can imagine it WOULD be tricky to string.
A Jackson Pollack painted bow....hey, it just quadrupled in price! :)
the design kinda reminds me of a designer dessert with dripped chocolate over a miniscule piece of cake lost in the center of the plate.
but , i like it!

Cool...Very sharp bends there with very good tiller, and as long as it shoots good what the heck.
-
THE PAINT JOB- EDDIE VANHALEN SPECIAL! Sorry for caps.
-
I swear you could make a lightening bolt bend real smooth.....tips not withstanding that is one beautifull bend right there.

I had a pair of m.c. hammer pants that had that same paint job. ;D Looks effortless to draw. I like those sharp static curves. I have one with some hooks like that I am finishing up right now, but looks like mine will be old hat. ;)
-
looks great del nice work.
-
I too like the sharp bend at the tips. Looks like a pleasant bow to shoot.
-
really cool lookin bow, those are some nicely curved tips!
-
Oh my Del! Definitely a bit different than your usual style, pretty cool, but different nonetheless! I think I seen similar artwork in the dentists office in the 80's. Lol! I really like the design and tiller, but the art work steals the show! I'm trying to categorize this baby. How's new age retro primitive sound. Lol! Whatever it is, I like it. You obviously had some fun making it. Good show! Josh

Makes me wonder what this guy could turn out if he was able to spend a weekend at Twin Oaks. >:D
