Title: First Sinew Backed Osage
Post by: PAHunter on March 18, 2013, 02:38:19 am
Over the past few months visions of fantastic hunts turned into memories of great adventures in the wild. Now my attention turns back to the crafting of weapons that may accompany me next time I venture into the woods.
The pinnacle of last year was an unbacked Osage selfbow that ended up about 51#. I have surely shot over 10,000 arrows through that bow since. I’ve hit a groundhog and squirrel and sent one arrow flying barely below the chest of a doe 15 yards away.

My goal for this year was to make an Osage bow backed with the sinew of the deer I butchered last year. A bow that I intend to one day chase elk with through the mountains of Colorado. That bow is the subject of this post. It came in at 66’’ tip to tip and about 56# @ 28’’.

Cool rob....a tad bit long for sinew, but who cares....it still should shoot good enough to kill and should outlive you

thanks guys I really appreciate it!

@Blackhawk what is a good length for a sinew backed osage with a handle?  I had not really considered going shorter but I know some of your bows are tiny.  :)

@Dvshunter thanks, I really wanted a simple look to this one.

For a 28" draw....A 60-62" stiff handled bow with reflexed limbs and static recurves angling more than 65° ;)

@BH wow cool bean!  Eventually I may consider taking a little off the ends to add a few pounds and speed.  It sounds like she has room to spare.
@Cipriano Thanks much!  Glad to support the great contest.
