So, just as with Paleoplanet, I have been lurking here for a while so I figured that I would finally stick my nose in. I started to pick up bowmaking six or seven years ago, but shortly after, a job change and relocation put things on hold until a couple of months ago when I felt inspired to do something with a white ash stave in my closet. Ever since, I have been digging through forums and the Bowyer's Bibles for hints, tips, and ideas. In that light, just as with the Paleo guys, I want to say thanks for being so open about bow making. It has made learning a great experience!
And, finally, since no introduction is complete without pics, here are some pictures of my recently completed red oak bow. It is 71" ntn and 58# @ 30". The handle and limb tips are "butcher block" style end grain cuts of maple and walnut (from one of my dad's old projects).
Stringing and exercising it a bit before breaking it in and applying a finish:

After break-in and finishing:

Hi,
Welcome out of the shadows. ;) if you liked the BB while you were lurking, you are going to love interacting with the many fine bowyers of the PA world. Which by the looks of that fine bow you posted you will fit right in. Really love the looks of that handle. Nice work.
God bless,
Tommy

Welcome back to the addiction. That handle is crazy unique. I wouldn't have even thought of something like that. Great work

Welcome to PA

Almost forgot to comment on the bow. Great job. I like your glue lines, very clean joinery

Thanks guys. I haven't made too many bows yet, despite having starting this adventure so long ago. I am just glad this one turned out ok. I think it was probably a bit ambitious for my level of skill. The butcher block parts are something that I cannot take full credit for as my dad and his extensive workshop had a hand in creating the patterns before I applied it to the bow.

Very creative use of what you have laying around. Welcome..

Sweet bow, welcome

Again, thanks guys for the comments and the warm welcome. Regarding the bend of the bow, the tillering and shaping of the grip area was the real challenge because of the combination of a working grip and the end grain butcher block lamination.
