With the weather about to plummet to winter tempts, there's no better time to be thinking about spring. This year's Moon Tree Gathering will be the first weekend of Spring, March 24, 25 and 26.
Location:
Moon Tree Farm
565 Stoney Run Rd
Richmond, KY 40475
Cell phone 859-582-2306
This is small gathering of a great bunch of great characters who keep coming back each year for some reason???
Activities include:
Bow building and related fun stuff in a heated workshop
A 12 stage 3D range.
Potluck meals.
Camping around the yard with electrical hookup via drop cords from the house.
Champion story tellers spinning yarns of days afield.
Flint knapping, although the way I do it is more like stone napping. haha
As with most of the Moon Tree Gatherings we take a couple hours away from the shop for a bonus event for your enjoyment. This year we're doing The Rifleman's Challenge, which will be a total of 10 shoots fired at distances of 40, 60, 80 and 100 yards. Any caliber rifle welcome. One could use a bow if they wish. Ask Danzn Bar about shooting a pop-up Zombie with his bow on the pistol shoot a few years ago.
I'm looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones.
Dave
-
I can't wait Dave. This is always such a fun gathering of friends. I can bring deer steaks for dinner one night. Or lunch ;D if I bring my camper could somebody with a 4WD pull it around back? How close could I get it to an electric outlet?
-
Clint, deer steaks are always welcome at Moon Tree. I'm sure the Tacoma can pull your trailer. We should be able to get you within the reach of 50 drop cord.
-
Sounds good Dave. I have a heavy duty 50' cord.
-
I'll be there it's on the calendar....
DBar
-
Sounds like fun.
-
Joe, come on down.
-
I'm going to try to make it
-
You will have a good time Joe. It's friendly and laid back kind of like the September shoot at Scottsburg just fewer people.
-
Nothing much stresses us around here. Although, Clint and Greg stressed my wife once. haha
-
I'll be there Dave if I could find some foam discs or make some would there be an interest in aerial shots with flu flus?
-
I would be up for that. I'll have to make some arrows
-
Daniel, the aero targets sound fun. I will TRY to mow the hillside field below the dog kennel, so we might be able to recover our arrows.
-
puttin it on the calendar, if y'all will have me
-
Oh yeah. Can't wait. Good times.
-
How many elm logs should I bring for you guys to split ;D
Looks like we might have a couple of new faces this year. I can't wait to head south in a few months.
-
puttin it on the calendar, if y'all will have me
You'll fit right in..............
DBar
-
sixnstones, I hope you can make to out little gathering.
-
Dave, right now the plan is for Stixnstones to drive to my house and ride down with me.
-
You two sleeping in RRII together??? :)
-
You two sleeping in RRII together??? :)
I don't think so Bill
-
Clint, if you're in the RRII, then Greg might need a new roommate in the honeymoon cottage. >:D
-
Dont know what you guys are plannin but i'm startin to git scared..lol
-
Nothing to be scared of. Unless you start hearing banjo music ;D
-
Dont know what you guys are plannin but i'm startin to git scared..lol
Your not afraid of explosions are ya stixs lol
-
Stix, I think you'll be fine. I have a guest cottage. Clint and Greg have stayed there pretty much since the gathering started. Being guys we nicked named it the "honeymoon" cottage. I'm sure Clint can fill you better than I can.
-
Bubby, I don't recognize your screen name. Were here during the teddy bear explosion?
-
He wasn't there but he did hear the story
-
Can't wait. I'll be getting back from Alabama the week before moontree hopefully with enough crappie we can have a fish fry if you want Dave. And on the 4WD Clint I can hook the Chevy up to Daves Tacoma when he tries to pull you around there lol. I'm gonna get my riffle zero in so maybe I will have a chance against you Gun slingers.
-
I hope we get good weather. We have been pretty lucky the last couple of years.
Dave, I have 2 deer targets. Do you want me to bring them?
-
Gutshot, if I EVER say no to fried crappie, smack me in the head and put me in a Home.
Clint, sure bring the 2 deer targets. I'll mow a spot for them.
If anyone has a 52 plus inch rat snake, copperhead or black snake skin, I'd be willing to make a trade.
-
Dave, I might have a skin that would work for you. I'll look and let you know for sure
-
Thanks Clint.
-
How many elm logs should I bring for you guys to split ;D
Looks like we might have a couple of new faces this year. I can't wait to head south in a few months.
Clint bring all the elm logs you want. I'll help you split them. We will be going to the grass this year instead of the gravel when splitting thou.
-
So who all is coming to Moontree this year?
-
I will be there and bringing Mike Baker
-
You know I'll be there................
DBar
-
I'll be there :) Brian is coming. Mike Click, my friend who usually shows up for a few hours on Saturday is planning on coming with his son Michael and camping. Mike Howard (H) who was here last year is hoping to make it, if he can get a hall pass from his wife (inside joke). My friend Jack and his son are hoping to make. I'm betting Dwight and Tyler (Greg will remember them from my rifle shoot a couple years ago) will drop by Saturday.
-
Yep, Ill be there, especially since my Classic plans got smooshed. Hope to see all the regulars there and meet the new. Always such a good time.
-
I should have 2 passengers riding with me this year.
-
Looks like we're going to have a good crowd this year. I might have to annex the shed, move the boat and tractor out, hang up some light and finish the tillering tree out there. I could hang some tarps to keep the weather out. Does anyone have a decent kerosene heater.
Speaking of lights, has anyone tried the new LED flood lights? I'm wondering how they would be for ring chasing. Halogens just burn out so quickly.
-
Looks like we're going to have a good crowd this year.
Yea looks like a good bunch showing up.......
Let me know what the food line up is and what I need to bring. :) .................
-
I'm planning on making it again this year. Dave let me know if I can bring anything food wise.
-
I haven't even given food a thought. Thinking of something a little different, how does venison lasagna sound for Friday night? I could throw it together, BUT I don't have ground venison. Would anyone like to donate some venison burger. We'd probably need 4 lbs to make 2 large lasagnas.
I've never done this, but Greg might be able to instruct me; how about a "Boil" Saturday night. I love the one they whip out at the Classic. Everyone could bring something to throw in the pot. Does anyone have a LARGE stock pot?
I'm just kicking out some ideas. I'm open to everyone's thought.
-

I can bring the venison if you still need it.
-
I could make up a pot o deer chili
-
selfbow, the ground venison would be greatly appreciated.
stixnstones, venison chili sounds like a great Saturday lunch, to me.
gutshot, I nearly forgot about the crappie. We'll work that in with any meal. Heck fried crappie goes good with anything. I have a turkey fryer with a smaller pot that has a strainer for frying you could use. I'll furnish the cooking oil.
-
For the boil we need:
5 lbs. of onions cut into 1/8 wedges
8 lbs. of quartered red potatoes
3 lbs. of crab meat
5 lbs. of shrimp and/or crawfish ( in the shell is fine)
6 lbs. of the small cut corn on the cob
5 lbs. of sausage in any combination smoked sausage, kielbasa or andouille sausage.
I'll provide the seasonings
No one person needs to bring the total of the ingredients. For example 3 people could bring 1 lb. of crab meat.
I suggest you prep/cut the food prior to arrival. Even cut potatoes will hold 3 days in a vacuum sealed bag in refrigeration. If you bring me a bag of onions or a package of sausage links I will hand you a knife and point you to the cutting board. I am NOT going to spend 2 hours prepping the food. I have rifle shoot to conduct. I'd like to shot the bow range a couple of time. I'd like to spend more than 15 minutes in the knapping pit with Tracy, and maybe even work on a bow in the shop.
-
I will bring the venison
-
I can bring the potatoes and corn.
Dave, did you find a large pot to cook it in?
-
Clint, thanks. I don't have a large pot yet. If no one has a pot, I'll buy one. I'm sure I'll find other uses for one. :)
-
Thanks selfbow.
-
I mowed the 3D course today. I cleared a couple more lanes for the 2 additional targets that Clint is bringing. Five weeks until Moon Tree Gathering. I'm so looking forward to it.
-
Only a few weeks until Moontree gets here. I'm ready to spend some time in the bow shop Dave. Remind me a few days before about bringing the extra targets.
-
Clint I will remind you about the targets. Brian thinks he has a large pot.
-
I plan to come Friday and maybe Saturday too, mentioned it to a couple of co-workers that are interested as well, especially for flint knapping. I've kind of gotten interested in that myself.
-
I texted Tracy the other day and he wasn't sure if he was going to be able to make it. I hope things work out for him.
-
Hey everyone ...... just a couple of weeks till Moontree. Who all is going...any trades working ? Dave (aka Chief Blue Feather) what can I bring to the party...I'm always good for a Dutch Oven Cobbler.....any thing else I can bring? Hell I can't wait, work has just been $hit lately, and I'm needing time away. I'm bringing a light weight sinew backed recurve I made with matching arrows to shoot the course with. hope to give it away at one of the shoots that I will be attending this spring. Anyone else bringing any goodies to take a look at???
DBar
-
Bill, I with you man. I can't wait to hang with my friends. I still have a lot to do to be ready for you all. But, it will happen.
I've been a bit distracted the last couple of months. I've decided to start writing, again. So, I've been sending query letters to magazines. As of now, a couple magazines are interested in an article on a black bear hunt, Brian and I will be doing in December. I have a couple more article ideas that I'm working on. I'm pretty excited about re-opening an old chapter of my life.
Bill, you know we LOVE your cobblers! A Moon Tree without them would be like a Moon Tree without the 100 yard bedded buck shoot. :)
I'll read through all the post this week to see what everyone is planning to bring for meal and whatever, then post the results to see if that still works with those individuals and to see what else we might needs.
-
I've got a few projects I want to work on. One of them is a thin belly split off of a fresh cut stave. I started to throw it in the burn pile but I saw a bendy handled bow hiding in it. I clamped it down to my caul. I'm going to try to quick dry it some.
-
Is this limited to known friends or open to anyone?
-
It's open to anyone. It's a small gathering but a great group of guys. Where are you located? I saw your post in the Classic thread that said you were a few hours north of Twin Oaks.
-
Near Louisville, KY. I go to the PowWow in Richmond every year.
-
I'm about an hour and a half away from you in Indiana. Danznbar is from Louisville. Moontree shouldn't be to far of a drive for you.
-
Richmond is 2 1/2 to 3 hours from me. Not far at all.
-
Near Louisville, KY. I go to the PowWow in Richmond every year.
Your about 45 minutes away from me.
-
Whew, it's been awhile since I've been on PA! Like Clint said I'm trying to work it out to make it down Friday and Saturday. I haven't broke a rock or made a shaving in.... too long! Life has had me busier than I want to be but this is one gathering I would hate to miss. May need instructions on how to shoot a bow :D
Tracy
-
May need instructions on how to shoot a bow :D
Tracy
I'm sure Chief Blue Feather will be glad to provide some late night insight to shooting a bow......:)
Would be great to see ya there .. being one of the founding fathers of the Moon Tree gathering.....
DBar
-
Tracy hope you get to make it.Right now its gonna be friday only for me. maybe saturday afternoon
-
Looks like I will just be able to make it on Saturday only. I wish I could do all three days but i don't think it's going to happen this year.
-
Tracy, I hope you make it happen. My tutorial on shooting a bow: look at a 100 yard bedded buck target. Draw back the bow. Aim at the prettiest cloud. I guarantee a head shot. haha
Daniel, I'm glad you can make it. I wish it could be for the 3 days.
Red Arrow. we look forward to meeting you. But, I've gotta ask--You're near Louisville and it take you 2 1/2 to 3 hours to get to Richmond. I can be to Gene Snyder freeway in 90 minutes.
I mowed the field for the areal target shoot. Who's bring the targets? Which reminds me, I gotta make some arrows in the next weeks. We (you) will need 4 arrows for the baseball, 3D target.
And don't forget the Rifleman's Challenge at high noon on Saturday. Any rifle that can shoot 100 is welcome.
Man, this going to be a fun weekend. I can't wait.
-
Dave, I will be there Friday late morning if that's OK. Selfbow Joe will be riding with me. Stixnstones will be following in his vehicle. I'm ready for some good times with good friends.
Tracy, I hope you are able to make it this year. It wouldn't be the same without you.
-
I'll be there Friday morning too....Be good to see you again Joe and Mike .....
Mike don't forget to bring that hackberry bow you built...I've built one hackberry and got a couple more staves would like to see your design. I like the stuff
DBar
-
Today, I bush hogged the opposite the dog kennel for our areal shooting so w can find our arrows. I, also, did a second mowing of the 3D course. I think it looks pretty good. I just need to setup the targets.
Has anyone used LED lights in their workshop? Seems they have some bright flood light varieties.
-
hedgeapple, I'm actually out in the country south of Louisville in Bullit County so I've got some backroad driving to get there. Unfortunately, my daughter has a doctor's appointment so I might not be able to make it there. She's epileptic so she can't miss her appointments when we can get them.
-
Red Arrow, I hope all goes well with your daughter. I hope it works outs where you can make it.
-
Thank you. I do too. Her mother scheduled the appointment so I'm not even sure which doctor she's going to see.
-
I've gone back through all the posts and this is where we stand. If I've missed something or got something wrong let me know.
food
Clint is bringing Venison steaks (I'm thinking southern fried V. steaks for breakfast), and potatoes and corn for the boil Saturday night.
Gutshot is bringing crappie if fishing is good in AL. Fried crappie sound good with the boil to me.
Selfbow Joe is bringing ground venison for the lasagna Friday night.
stixnstones is bring venison chili for lunch Saturday

Hey Dave,
I'll bring a pound of shrimp and a pound of sausage for the boil ....along with the cobbler and will help in the kitchen with breakfast...cooking eggs? or whatever the chef needs.
DBar
-
Bill, that is awesome. I've been playing around with braising meat in my Fry Daddy. I brown it off in the deep fryer, then cook it off in the oven. It's been very tender and yummy. So, that's my plan for the Country Fried Venison steaks. If you man the fryers. I can get the rest of breakfast prepped and started. With luck everything should come out around the same time and maximum total time from start to finish of less than hour.
-
I might have to buy beef steaks instead of deer steak. Hope that is OK. I'm not much of a cook but I can try to help out with breakfast.
-
Clint, I've never attempted southern fried venison steaks, but I think it sound great. Beef steaks would be fine, also. Whichever you want to will be great. Breakfast is an easy meal to cook, it's just a little time consuming on the prep end. I'd love your help. Thanks. I'd like to start cooking by 8:30. I know that will not be an issue with you and Bill. It'll be a push for me. haha So, I won't be watching the sunrise from the windows of the workshop. :)
-
Dave, I don't think any meal is complete without desert. How's about I bring either two blackberry cobblers or one blackberry and one peach. I won't make it till Saturday and if ok I'll have a young man with me that was in 4/H with my daughter and now attends Eastern. I told him I would gift him a stave and he will be looking for guidance. Joe
-
Is anyone else getting excited about Moontree? It's getting close. I'm ready to see more of Chief Blue Feathers trick shots.

Dave, can't wait. I just read back through the posts and it looks like Bill has dessert unless you think we need more. Looks to me like you still need crab meat and onions. I can handle that if it's for Sat. As that is the only day I can make it. Clint I have a couple of projects I'm bringing. One holey stave I've had for a while, might get you to look at it for me, and a few others. Bill I finally got a hunting weight bow nearly finished just need a few eyes on it to bring it down a few pounds and draw out a few more inches. Paul hope you can make it Sat. Looking forward to it. Joe
-
Joe, if it's ok with Bill, he could do cobbler Friday and you could do cobbler Saturday. The crabmeat and onions are for Saturday's Boil. Thanks for bringing them. I'll make the adjustments on that post. And, your young friend is welcome.
Clint, thanks for the pictures. Brian's form looks perfect. haha Don't worry about buying steaks, I can provide venison steaks.
-
Dave, I can bring a pack of steaks.
-
Friday cobbler is ok with me chief blue feather
-
Getting ready to do some practicing tomorrow for the riflemans challenge ......
DBar
-
Nice flinter and kit Bill
-
Purdy shootin' iron dar Bill.
I practiced shooting the Rifleman's Course a few days ago with my iron sight lever action .357mag. I shot:
4 for 4 standing at 40 yards
3 for 3 kneeling at 60 yards
1 for 2 sitting at 80 yards. I lost concentration on the 2nd shot. grr
Prone at 100 yards it took me 6 shots to hit the gong, but I was out of the bullets that I started with. I need to reload some more of those. After the first hit, I hit 5 straight. So, it's possible that I could run the course, but I'll have bring my A-Game. Either way it'll be fun.
-
We should send ya'll The Rat 3d from The Gathering shindig of couple weeks ago. Sure you'd have fun with that! (SH)
-
I should be there Friday morning. I'll bring some ice cream for the cobbler. Can't wait to see everyone should be anther great time.
-
I checked the extend forecast and the weather looks pretty good. Highs in the 60's with a chance for some light rain showers.
-
Crappie fishing in Alabama was awful. We only caught 14 but had a lot of fun so see you all on friday
-
Ozzy good to see you'll be here early. Yummy ice cream.
Gutshot, don't worry about the crappie. We'll have enough to eat.
Knoll, we'd shoot a rat or at one at least. :)
-
Anyone interested in sausage gravy Saturday morning had a hog butchered so I have a lot of sausage?
-
Really looking forward to this. Ain't been on here much lately. Work and baseball keeps me occupied. Dave, do you have a sufficient backstop for a .300 Win Mag? That's my armament at the moment, unless I shoot my bow :D. Let me know what food is needed. I can bring a couple pounds of shrimp or whatever is needed.
-
Greg, thanks for bringing a couple pounds of shrimp. I think my backstop will stop a .300 Win Mag. It's a roll of hay backed by 2 layers of steel belt tires. I guess will see. haha
I'll get an up to date list of who's bringing what posted later this evening.
-
Dave, is the rifle shoot open sights only or can we bring a scoped gun ?
-
Joe, any type of sights on your rifle is OK. AND, you can use up to 2 different rifles to shoot the course 2 times. But, each round must be shot with one rifle start to finish. Example: I will be shooting my Rossi lever action with iron sights for one round and my scoped Savage .243 for another round.
-

Well, bad news friends. Looks like I'm out. A close family friend passed away. With visitation Friday and funeral Saturday, I will not be able to attend. Sure was looking forward to seeing everyone again but it's just not going to work out this time.
-
Sorry to hear that Greg
-
Sorry for you loss Greg.
Looks like we won't be needing the wood stove this year. Friday the high is 70. Should be lots of bow making going on this weekend :BB
-
Will anyone with a 4x4 be able to pull my camper around back to the flat spot behind Dave's house?
-
Sorry for the loss in your family Greg.
Man I'd love to come shoot the rifle course! Just too far to drive for me.
-
Greg, my heart goes out to you and family. We'll miss you, but we understand.
-
Stringman, it's only a 7 hour drive >:D If it would make more worth your time, come on down Thursday afternoon. I'll be home by 3PM.
That goes for the rest of you, also. I'll be home by 3PM Thursday afternoon. My plans are to setup the 3D course, the rifle range and maybe tidy up the workshop a little. So come on down and I'll put you to works. :)
-
Hey Dave,
Anyone staying in the guest house?
-
Bill, I think Clint and Stixnstones are staying in the Cottage. There's a bed in my studio that no one has reserved. It's yours if you want it.
-
Dave I've got bad news doesn't look like I'm going to make it this weekend. My father in law may be having an unexpected neuro surgery we may be in Louisville all weekend. I hope you all have fun and don't let any beagles lick you around the camp fire >:D
-
Clint I'll get your trailer pulled around for you.
Greg sorry for your family's loss
DLH hope your father in law has a speedy recovery.
-
I think I better leave it at home this trip. My truck had a bad vibration off and on this morning on my way to work. If it doesn't straighten out I might be driving my little work car. Me and Joe will be packed in that thing.
-
Daniel, best wishes to your Father-in-Law for speedy recovery.
-
Does anyone have a few .243 shells I could use? I can pay you for them. I forgot to stop and get a box on my way home today. I won't be going by anyplace that sells them in the next 2 days.
Dave, I got the corn, steaks, and potatoes. They only had one bag of red potatoes. I got it and a bag of regular. I hope that's OK.
-
Dave,
I'm bringing 5 lbs of crawfish instead of 1 lb of shrimp since greg can't make it and bring some shrimp. That way you don't need to provide any.
It will be a good boil with some craws.....
-
Dave, how far away is Lancaster from your house? I'm working on a craigslist deal with someone there. I might have to step away from the party for a few minutes if it works out.
-
Bill, thanks for stepping up. Crawfish will be AWESOME in the boil. I looked for crawfish at walmart this afternoon and was planning to try Kroger tomorrow. Thanks
Clint it will take you an hour at least to get the town square of Lancaster from my place. Including deal making/chat time you'll be looking at a 3 hour trip, realistically.
I have a 19, .243 shell for target shooting (meaning they really suck for deer hunting) and 14 to 18 (depending on how many are in my rifle right now) hunting loads. If that's not enough, we can make more. :) Or, I could stop by Meijer, Thursday and see if they have any. Meijer is just across the street from my work. I can make top-of-the-line, Nosler Ballistic tip, hunting bullets for around $15 a box of 20 as opposed the store price of $30. If you're not using the Winchester Ballistic Silvertips (which uses the Nosler bullet) for deer YOU SHOULD BE. I've taken deer out to 314 yards with that bullet.
-
Dave, I am meeting them in Richmond so it won't take that long.
-
Dave what exit it your off south 75?
-
We should be there around 10 am hopefully. Is anyone looking to do any trading?
-
Dave what exit it your off south 75?
Exit 95 Ozzy Boonesboro Rd.
I'll be there about then too......

Bill is the human GPS
Nooo ... I just got through looking it up myself. HaHaHa
-
Thanks Bill . I should be there around 9
-
Leavin southern Michigan at 4am.... see y!all in the mornin
-
I will be there Sat morning hopefully in time for breakfast. Clint as far as trading you probably have got everything I am bringing plus some. I was hoping to come Fri. but I have to work and it is our 26 wedding anniversary and going out Fri night. I will have a few Osage staves with me, some sinew and maybe a few frozen black snakes if anyone would be interested in skinning.
-
I can help you skin them.
-
I need a 52 plus inch rat snake, copperhead or maybe a nice looking black snake. I have turkey feathers, turkey spurs and some small whitetail antlers that would make a few tip overlays. I have some antique tools that I might part with like hand crank drills, wooden levels and a cross cut saw blade and maybe more.
I'd like a fairly straight osage stave.
I'm thinking of starting an English war bow with the 5/8 ratio but under 60 pound draw weight. I have the sister hickory stave that Greg worked with hear and at the Classic, hackberry and a wapiti maple. I'm thinking the maple might be the best. Any thoughts?
-
I was really wanting to go to this gathering but my daughter has been in the hospital for 10 days and just came home last night. She's still pretty wore out and her mother wants time at home to rest up so I'll probably have to wait until the Classic. Hope to meet some of y'all there.
Ron

You boys have fun and behave yourself, :-\ got to make this one day, maybe next year after I retire. ;)

Well, somebody post some pictures already!! Sure wish I was there. Fun times for sure.

We had a primitive Robinhood arrow today. One went right down the center of Danznbars fancy cane arrow. It was awesome. They are still stuck together. We acquired some osage from a farmer a few miles away. We saw him cutting a tree up for firewood on the way to Moontree. Me, Ozzy, and Joe went back and talked him out of a couple straight sections. It's been split up and shared. Mike is working on a short hackberry and Ozzy is tillering an osage D bow. I've got a bow on the caul. We are having a great time and enjoying the beautiful weather.

Just got home from another great weekend at Moontree. Thanks to Dave a very awesome host .
It was good to see old friends and meet new ones. All ready anticipated next year.
-
Just got settled in from gettin home from moontree... gotta sy that was the best weekend i've had in a long time. Thanx to Dave for makin everyone feel at home and opening his home and property to us. Moontree has everything... 3-d course, gun range, bow building shop, good food, great people... just cant say enough... cant wait til next year.
-
It was good to see everyone again and also had some new blood that I think we just might have got them hooked....Dave thanks so much for having this bunch of nuts out to your place for a weekend to remember. I think there were more shavings made this year than years past. Good food, good stories, good shoot'n and really good times. Came back with one less arra this year to a robin hood. Glad to see Greg make it, how did that leather jacket dry out on the way back??? :) Note to self and anyone else who likes to shoot muzzle loaders....do "not" get into an off hand shooting contest at 75 yards with stixnstones !! Damn good shooting Mike! It ain't luck when you can do it back t back. As far as bow building, it is amazing the improvement I've seen in the guys that have been there the last few years bow building. These guys are producing some very nice bows,
Again... Dave's a great host and I a blast...THANKS Dave!
Till next time,
DBar

What a great weekend. The weather was perfect on Friday and Saturday. It was good to see old friends and meet some new ones. I missed seeing Tracy and Daniel. Thanks for making it Greg. I bet that was a fun ride home on that bike. Thank you so much for hosting this again Dave. This was the best course set up that you have had. I think I finally understand the baseball game. It seems like we always find stuff to blow up and critters to skin at Moontree. This year was no exception. I took a few pictures. I'll try to post some tomorrow.
-
I had a really good time. Thank Dave for open your home. It was nice to meet some of the people on here. I learned a lot from this trip. Thank everybody for helping me or explaining things to me.
-
Good to see everyone. Sorry I missed most of the fun events and some of the good food, but had a great time anyway. I dodged the first few thousand raindrops on the way back, but couldn't avoid the drenching I got about midway back. Ended up soaked to the bone, but it was warm, so no worries. Can't wait till next year. Good job Dave!

Guys, I agree it was a great Moon Tree Gathering, but it had little to do with my efforts, but more so with friends, old and new, who graced my humble workshop's doors. Thank you all for coming. It was a joy meeting the new folks and hearing them making plans to return again next year. For me, this was my most relaxed Gathering ever, even though I'd planned some extravagant meals and a rifle shoot. The lack of stress was do to you guys making yourselves at home. Heck, I even started a bow this weekend.
Mike, thanks so much for the knife. I'm already considering ideas of how I'm going to sheath it. Ideas I'm considering are: attach it to my revolver shoulder holster, attach it to a quiver (I really like Bill's hip quiver) or make a neck sheath for it. In typing this I'm thinking I might do all 3. That way it would pretty much be with me anytime I step out. And, that hackberry bow you finished here is just beautiful. And, wow what a shooter.
I could type through till next week thank each one of you for the gifts you've bestowed on me, but the greatest gift is your friendship. Thank you.
-
Best Moontree ever!
-
Glad everyone had a good time hopefully I will make it next year this is the one event I try my hardest to attend but it just couldn't happen this year.
-
I hate that I was only able to make it for a few hrs Friday. But it was nice to meet Stixandstones and selfbowjoe. Also Ozzy, Clint, Bill, Joe , and Dave nice to see you fellas again. Dave you did a heck of a job again this year. Looking forward to MT6 gathering.

Best Moontree ever!

The incredible robin hood primitive shot. The fact that it was a fancy Danzn-puff arrow made it even better.

Great pics Outlaw... lookin at 'em makes me wanna go back this weekend.
-
Y'all had better weather there than we had out here in Calif
-
Dave, I also only made it for one day. Your hospitality and all the comradery between a bunch of great guys along with great food really makes me wish I had been able to make it Fri. Great pics. Clint and thanks for all you guys help. The young man that rode with me(Spencer) was equally impressed with all the talent and appreciative of all the help he got. I think he might be hooked, He told me on the ride back he didn't think there would be that much involved in making a bow. ;)
-
He told me on the ride back he didn't think there would be that much involved in making a bow. ;)
I believe Spencer is correct. There's not much involved in making a bow. But, what there is, there's a lot. :)
Clint, thanks for the picture.
-
Great pictures, looked like a great time for sure. Thanks for posting them. :)
Pappy

That sure looks like a good time. Was hoping to make it this year.
-
Greg sorry for your loss! Daniel I hope your father in law is better! I hate that I couldn't make it this year but it looks like you had a great time and ate good! Great pics
Tracy

We really miss ya Tracy.....there were a few beginner knappers that would have enjoyed your experience....

-
Pappy and Matt, I'd be honored if you all made to our little event.
Tracy, you were missed. Heck, I'd probably had time for more than 5 minutes to spend in the knapping pit this year.
The weather was so perfect this year (except for Sunday) that I think we'll have the Moon Tree Gathering the 4th weekend in March every year. That'll be Mar. 23-25 next year.
It's so quiet this weekend. I'm really missing you all.
-
It was great seeing everyone! It took 5 years, but I finally learned how to play baseball!!! I missed seeing several folks by only stopping by Friday, I think I met two new faces, Mike and Joe, hope to see ya'll next year.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the gathering every year, great bunch of friends. I'm inviting gutshot up to bowfish this summer, hopefully he'll try to sink my boat with black rocks... :D
I may even try to have a fish fry/shoot around at my place if things come together for those that might be interested. Thanks Dave for hosting, it's always a pleasure.
-
Wapiti, I intrigued by the "fish fry/shoot." Will we be shooting at fried fish? Or, maybe we shoot some carp to fry up? I've never eaten carp, but what the heck. I'll give them a try. Or probably we have a fish fry and an archery shoot. >:D Either way it sounds fun.
