it's been awhile since I've made one, mainly because I've been getting great arrows from Art Butner and Chris Cade. About 6 months ago I found some nice cane, 2 nodes per arrow. I cut a couple of dozen and saved them. Then I got this nice Hopewell point from C. VanOrder. It has serrations on top of big serrations. He only gives me cool points like this if I will hunt with them. He wants to know how fancy points of that Time Era really held up to the task. So I straightened the cane last night and mounted the point. Today I put the fletching on with sinew. And now it's time to watch the Gators and the 'Holes,, uh I mean the 'Noles ;)

Hows she shoot Eddie. Looks WAY too short for your draw!!! :o ::) Looks like it will do the trick. That point is wicked! Pat
-
shoots good. Pat. It's 29", I think it looks short because of the Tail feathers. The tail feathers are weak so I leave them full size. They lay down when you shoot.
-
Hey mullet do the tail feathers make noise in flight? I used some secondaries and they made a buzz compared to the primaries Id used on others.
-
Man that point looks sick eddie, oh yea nice arra :)
-
Auggie, It does make a little noise. But then I can't hear very good and shoot close targets, so it doesn't bother me. ;)
-
Looks good, that thing oughta make a wicked wound channel. You can shorten those feathers down a lot and they'll stiffen up.
-
I already did.
-
Lets see the new picture eddie of the shorter feathers. How do you cut the feathers? I am trying to make some myself.
-
I'll do it tomorrow in the day light. I was shooting it today and tuning the fletching. It made a difference.
-
Nice looking arrow, hope you get something with it.
I've been using the two fletch a lot lately. It's really handy because of how easy it is. :)
It looks like the feathers are facing down. I did them like that for a while and wasn't impressed with how they shot. Per Pat, I turned them so they are facing out away from the arrow shaft. I don't know how it is shooting for you, but that really helped the flight of my arrows.

If you are using tail feathers you can turn them out. If you are using secondary wing feathers you need to turn them in, since they are curved .
-
looks like a good un' Eddie.Next time I make the journey up to CVO's I think a lesson in arrows will be my request. That one sure looks like it would get the job done.

Thankyou, sir.

-
I've seen a pic of a pig you put an arrow in its head and you can't hit one of them pineapples. ::)
-
Pat, Three pic's and different angles too, I gotta try harder. ;D
-
Man those pineapples look good so does the sun ;) nice arra too :)
-
Sun warm and pineapples! What a life!
-
beautiful head. mullet, you are an artist when it comes to arrows.
-
Two more weeks and pick the pineapples, yum yum. Thank you Marius, they both shoot great, too.
-
Very nice arrow ;D Marlon
-
Wow! why am I just now finding this? Them's some nice arra's Eddie, bet they'll do the job. And that's just weird seeing pineapples growing in somebody's back yard ;D.
-
Can you do this with only turkey tail feathers or can you use primary and secondarys? I tried some this way with secondarys but they stuck out from the shaft a lot! Help!!!!
-
David, secondaries work, but work the best when you turn them backwards to the shaft.
-
What Eddie said-turn the dull side out, makes a big difference.
-
Thanks guys! I'll do that.
-
Well the first arrow with the jagged point is going hunting in the morning. I talked to my Buddy yesterday and then tonight and he has about 15 turkeys showing up in the mornings. He said 7, I think, were gobblers, with 3 long beards and hens. The only cover is a blown down limb of a huge Live Oak. No leaves, but I have to crawl back in there and still have a shot. If it works , there will be pictures.
-
Well good huntin' there "young fella." ;DTurkey meat fer supper huh ?......bob
-
Nope! just feathers. ;D
-
Takes a lot of feathers for a meal, plus they smell bad when you cook 'em.......:)
-
That's alright, I didn't get enough to eat. I was so cold laying there for 2hours without moving, I was kinda glad it was over.
-
It was 8 degrees here this morning-you'd love it...:)
-
9deg here!
-
We'll be back in the 80's Christmas day. ;D
-
Eddie, Eddie ...tich...tich! Such abuse your laying on us!!! ::)
Its 32 today!
-
Merry Christmas, David, I'll be Tanning tomorrow. ;)

HI all, i am new to primitive archery and have a couple of questions. On the arrows, is that real sinew or synthetic? Only two fletch? I don't get it. I am a Scadian archer that is just getting into primitive. I do make my own arrows but they are medieval and I wanna do this stuff it is way cooler.
-
Welcome, The wrap is ostrich sinew and deer backstrap sinew. The two fletch was used by a lot of Native American people. It is fairly quick and easy to make and these two arrows fly perfect out of my 60# sinew backed Osage bow.
-
Wicked cool, I wanna learn that! is there some place on the internet that someone can point me to learn how to do two fletch? Is the boyers den alright? Like said in my previous post I am Scadian ( in the SCA) I used to do armoured combat but have since move on to archery. To make a long story short (too late) I have a big roll of artificial sinew (waxed nylon). Although not authentic will this do for a start?
Do you glue the fletch or are they tied on like medieval arrows?
Thanks in advance and thank you Mullet for your welcome.

This is the best place to learn everything and anything about primitive archery. Artificial sinew is just fine but make sure you supper glue the sinew wrap at the front and back to secure it better since the artificial sinew does not shrink and the wax will make it slide a bit when you shoot it. I use artificial sinew all the time.
Nope, you do not need to spiraly wrap the feathers to make them stay in place. This is a majorly easy and quick way to fletch arrows and you can use feathers other than the primary feathes to fletch arrows with this way.
Have fun!

Go to page 7, in this section(arrows), 10 threads down,"help with two fletch,pl". Explore some more in the back pages of this section, there are some more.
-
Fantastic, thanks for the info. :)
-
Awesome arrow, and those heads are outta this world. I can tell I need lots more practice.
-
Thanks Mullet and Dtiller, your info is much appreciated. I have never felt so welcomed into a community as I have here. Y'all rock
-
Glad your having fun with the site and the gang here. I found this site a few years ago and made a bunch of good friends through it.
-
Eddie:
Where can I get some cane? I'm over here in St. Augustine and I'm wondering if it can be found around here. I've got my own turkeys in the backyard, so feathers aren't a problem.
-
3Bows, you should be able to find all sorts of cane near you. Look along the fresh water rivers, drainage ditches and the woods along the roads...and in your neighbors yards. Pat
-
3bows, like Pat said. The closer you get to Ga. the better for cane. It doesn't grow down here where I'm at. Or look for Bamboo.
