Great bow!! I would like to build try building an ELB for the first time this summer
-
That's awesome! I wish my bows were half that good when I was 11... or now for that matter ;D!
-
thanks guys this is the first time i tried building a bow too. David its really not that hard to build a bow. What i did is i drew my plans on a piece of paper then drew the thickness and the width and all that stuff on the bow, got my bench plane, planed it down to my desired thickness what was kept slightly above the final thickness got a scraper and sandaper and d shaped it. Then I tillered it and put on horn nocks, in the beginning i had trouble pulling it back but now im handling it like its a glassfiber bow!:D
-
WOW! That's awesome there young man! Well done. Looks to me like you have a long career ahead of you.
-
thanks! I hope to be a bowyer some day ;)

and ofcourse i tapered it with my bench plane as well

Very Fine looking bow, and a pretty impressive accomplishment. Did you build it from a kit, board or stave? How did you make the horn nocks?
-
I made the bow from a stave that i purchased from crowshead outfitters. I just used a draw knife a bench plane and a scraper(a steel ruler actaully) I am very happy with the poundage also I was cheap and bought the horn nocks from the longbowshop along with my arrowmaking supllies ;D
Thanks for all your kind comments

Great work my man!! What part of the world do you live?? And is the "Longbowshop" you talk about the one in the UK??
Thanks for your time??
-
The longbowshop i talk about is in the UK they ship everywhere in the world. Only if u buy from them for somebodys birthday i recomend you order 5 weeks before that as it took a month to arrive when i ordered and indeed i live in N.J.
Steve: the drawing technique is just something i was messing around with till i found the right technique and i kind of copied Nick birmingham's drawing style. Im hoping to get hold of some better wood like ash but i dont think im in for yew yet.
-
First attempt? far better than my first go. well done

I will second that that is one hell of an achievement at that age, and that you did it all on your own very well done. I think it should be bow of the month.

Nice Draw!! ;D You dont want to have your index finger on top of the arrow like that though, try to keep that finger under the shaft.

don't forget to vote for bow of the month! ;)
-
;D ;D ;D ;)
-
Very nice bow. Cheers Marlon ;)
-
Tom, That is sweet!, and it's wonderful to see. You obviously are progressing at a good pace, and having grown up shooting heavy bows relative to my young age my best advice is just make sure not to push yourself too hard since you are still growing and its natural temptation to try and shoot more and more poundage..
Rich-Impressed ;D
-
let us all not forget that bow of the month voting is tomorrow! ;) ;) ;D ;) ;D :D

Ok my i found out that i pull my bow 27 inches back and not 25( i made mark on my arrows at 25 in 26 in and 27 in and i drew it to 27) So my bow's poundage is also higher than i thought. The bow's poundage is 52.6 lbs.
