I made this little bow for my son. It is his first wooden bow. He turned two in December so I figured he was old enough to graduate from the suction cup shooting plastic bow. It's made from a Hickory backing strip with an Osage, Hick, and Ipe handle. I backed it with a piece of whitetail rawhide that I dyed with Fiebings. The dried rawhide induced a bit of reflex to the thin hick strip. The finish is tru oil. The arrows are some narrow tonkin fletched with goose feathers in the two fletch style. For points I just plugged the end and ground a nock taper to make a "point". I figured this would be a bit safer for his baby sister. :o. It measures 37" tip to tip and draws about 7# at 14". I want to thank David Knight(KnightD) for his advice on building this. Also thankyou to all who so kindly share their knowledge.

That's a cool little bow Rick! Your little boy is real cute, and a really good shot too from the looks of that deer target! :D Seriously though, enjoy this time as much as you can...I remember when my 11yr. old was 2 and shooting his first bow...now he's always always trying to take my bows. I'm glad just to keep them outside and busy. Congratulations, and have fun with your little boy. :)

That's just great. I have a 21 month old boy myself. He already has a bow and I can't wait till he gets old enough to shoot it.
That's a good looking bow and a fine looking little feller too. ;)

Nice bow and arrows Rick. Your son looks like he is quite pleased. Looks like he's IDed a nice deer trail in that second woods pic. A natural hunter!
-
That's awesome. The look on his face says it all.

You guys are sure enjoying life, he may or may not remember those moments but you sure will. He's lucky to have a dad that does stuff like that. My dad used to make wooden swords and stuff for my brother and I and I still remember that. Better than any store bought goods. My son is going on 16yrs old and I've temporarily lost him to the female sex so enjoy now.

Rick, this is awesome. The bow and arrows looks great, I had no idea they were so small until I scrolled down.
This makes me almost, almost want to be a dad :) But you guys are doing a great job already.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. I appreciate it. It was the most fun bow I have built. Aaron "helped" with many of the steps. His favorite was the rawhide procedure. Thanks again.
