Title: Help in getting started.
Post by: bearbowman on March 02, 2009, 12:21:03 pm
I have never knapped anything in my life. I would love to give it a try. I don't have a lot of money. What would the basic things I would need to give it a try?

I love in south central Pa, is there a type of rock/stone in my area that would be good for knapping? I live in very close proximity to the susquehanna river if that helps.

Any info would be appreciated. I thought about trying to do some bone points but that doesn't seem to help in my quest to learn how to knap.

Thanks,
Bob

What sailordad said and a book or possibly a video. One easy to understand book is The art of flintknapping with DC Waldorf. I hear there's a lot of good youtubes to watch but haven't looked. If you could find someone local to sit with for an evening, that would be the best thing to do.
