I started this bow at Hawkeye Bowmens traditional shoot last summer.
I'm taking my time and going slow because I've never done this kind of work before.
It's still a work in progress, I have much more planned for this bow.
There is so much to learn.
I put a temporary Tru-Oil finnish on it so I could hunt with it last fall, and was lucky enough to take two deer with it while hunting from the ground.
My first two deer with traditional equipment!
 I love shooting this bow!

 I named it "Hawkeye Spirit"
 It's 66" long
 7" brace
 47# at 26"
It has two silver wire inlays now and I will add three more when I finish it.
The only pics I have at this point are hunting pics.
I plan to finish it after turkey season in May and I'll post more detailed pics then.
 Thanks for looking!
 Kevin

Very nice bow Kevin, Definitely has some unique charactor and talented careful detailing on that grip. I cant wait to see it completely finished. It will no doubt be a head turner where ever you go with it and it also has proven it's worth in the field. Congratulations on your fine accomplishment.   Keenan

Nice job on the bow.  I really like your handle detail. Two deer from the ground.....Not too bad for a bow that needs to be finished. ;)

-
wow the handle is absoutely beautiful... great work

-
Dang that is nice carving. You do that yourself?

-
Very nice work.  Congratulations on a fine bow!

-
Congrats on your hunting success! Great looking bow, handle carving is shows a lot of talent! ;)

-
Great first bow! From the looks of that carving and inlays I bet you build a fine flintlock as well.

-
Wow, not completely finished and already made meat.  I love the carving and the inlays.  Hopefully we will see some turkey pics with it.

Thanks for all the nice comments guy's!
The two deer I got last fall were not spectacular deer by any means,
But last fall WAS my best deer season EVER!
It was ALL ABOUT THE BOW!
And I enjoyed every minute of it.
When I first learned to wire inlay, I thought I'd work on muzzleloaders, but I only did one.
I got side tracked on makin' turkey calls for 17 years.

I see two deer who think it's it's finished just fine the way it is! ;D

If that ain't what you call finished I can't wait to see it (and the dead bucks) when it is.
-
I was thinking Muzzleloaders, too.  Very talented work.  Looks like a mid 40# bow can kill a deer as well as anything else.  Great job!

-
Want to crank back your deer slayer to full draw for March BOM fun?

-
Oh, heck yea! a 47# bow can kill a deer, when I retrieved my arrow, it was stickin' in the mud on the other side of where the buck was standin', a complete pass through!

Oldbow, I might try BOM when I finish it,I'll have to do some readin' up on the requirements.

-

Like the others have said, congratulations on your bow and deer too!  Probably not too many people can say they took 2 deer (or even 1) with their first bow.  Nice job!

-
Thanks again guy's for all the nice sentiments.
I am really enjoying my time here, searching the posts, theres so much here and it's all quite inspiring.
 I'm learning a lot!
 Sailordad,
I make many different kinds of turkey calls.
Here's a cherry box call with 18K gold and sterling silver wire inlays.
