Makes no diferance with osage since your removing all the sapwood anyways.

In Kansas its between the end of deer season and the begining of spring trukey for several reasons. #1 its in between deer and spring turkey #2 because its easier to spot them in the bottoms when there is less foliage #3 You don't have to fight the bugs and snakes and poison ivy/oak/sumac.#4 If you get them from about Feb to Apr. the bark just pops off with the draw knife and the sapwoods is alot easier to remove with a good sharp edge. #5 Its easy to see the game trails that time of season and so it also serves a good scouting material for next years hunt. Having said all that I agree that anytime I can get a chance to harvest good osage I take it. Just make sure its good osage and worth the effort. Danny

Don't care what else you've heard, the best time to cut osage is after a good nights sleep, good breakfast, and when you've got a lot of buddies (preferrably young, dumb, and with strong backs!) willing to help! ;D

Two good reasons to cut osage between deer and turkey seasons, if you have the option to choose. First, git yerself out about midday in July (where in my world 95 degrees and 80% rh is typical) and work you up a nice big osage tree. If you live through it, you'll understand. Second, by cutting wood early in the Spring, you have time for the sapwood to dry out some before the summer heat brings the bug larvae into action. They tend to not have as much appetite for the dryer wood. Only bad infestation I've had, in ten or so cuttings, was from Summer cut wood, and it was no fun.
