Title: Green Points
Post by: Marc St Louis on June 02, 2009, 09:13:47 pm
I don't do much knapping and I'm not very good at it.  I did turn these out a couple days ago and for me they did turn out pretty good.  I made them from some green glass I found near the Mattawa river when the water was really low, I am sure the glass is quite old.  The glass was about 3/8" thick and the pieces big enough that I was able to make some nice points about 1" wide and some 2" long

Them look good Marc! You've started out like me and countless others. Popping off flakes almost straight down and not travelling to the center or better. That edge prep and angle will come with time and perseverance. I'm sure them would take meat with the best of em. If you could knap like you tiller we'd all be in trouble ;D.

Marc, nothing wrong with those that a little edge prep wouldn't take care of, like Paul said. They look like they would still stick a deer. I think our ,(knappers), problem is we worry about making them too pretty, even when we are just going to hunt with them. If they have a point and are sharp, they will work.

Thanks guys

Not an addiction for me BP.  I still prefer bows but it is interesting to make one now and then

The edge does looks a bit uneven but they are sharp, as sharp as points I have received from experienced knappers

I'm sure those would get the job done. Wonder what the history of the glass is?
