Here are few pics of my new Bamboo backed Ipe bow. Hope you like them. This bow is 59" NTN, limbs are 1 1/8" down to 3/8" tips, pulls 50 lb at 28".

This was my first BBI and I really like Ipe....it is some tough wood.
-
Nice looking bow Marvin. Ipe is some good bow wood.
-
Looks great, so does the boy.
-
Thanks.
The little guy is my grandson Cooper he will be 3 this month.
I was surprised how little ipe it takes to make a decent draw weight bow.
-
I have a IPE/Boo bow in the works myself. It didn't turn out as purdy as yours. And I am having to add some wraps on the nodes. I plan on making my next one with a rounded belly like yours.
-
Ipe, like osage, lends itself to short boo backed bows...and you are right, it doesn't take much ipe to make a good bow.
Nice bow. You opened those limbs up nicely at full draw.
-
What a BAD grandfather you are: let the poor little boy shoot this ugly plastic compound-look-alike while you yourself shoot this really nice BBI! ;D ;D ;D
Just kidding: great bow!
Another full draw pic would be nice, thisone is with your bowarm angled and makes the upper limb look sorta stiff!
-
Really nice job! Fit and finish looks top shelf. I guess I need to get me some of that ipe stuff and see what all the rage is about? ;)
-
Here is another full draw pic.

Your grandsons form is PERFECT!...Now go make him a real bow. ;D
-
Cooper is shooting his "back up" bow in that pic, he had to take his real bow home with him.
Here is a pic of him shooting his real bow.

Medicine Wheel that comment on your first post was funneee! ;D
Timo, Pm me your address and I will send you a nice piece out of the next board I unzip. I know you have a ton of fine Osage and I'll get back to Mojam eventually so don't worry about the paperwork for now..

Beautiful bow Marvin,I like it. God Bless
-
Very well done.. Looks like you have your self a real good shooter there..
-
Thanks for the comments. This one turned out to be a good shooter. The deflex/reflex limbs give it early draw weight, with a smooth draw. At full draw it doesn't' feel like 50lb. It will take me a little getting used to.....still shooting high with it from beyond 20yds.
-
Sweet looking bow,and good looking boy.Bet it will fling and arrow. :)
Pappy
-
Fine looking bow.
-
I am new at building self bows, I have cut some staves from my land and figure they will be good enough to make mistakes on. What I do not know is what is an IPE bow. I know I will take a few hits for this.
Hacksaw
-
Hacksaw.......Ipe is the type of wood, the bow is a bamboo backed ipe or BBI
-
Nice looking bow, very elegant and I bet its fast!!!
-
Thank you Marvin.
-
Marvin very nice bow, I have got to try some ipe. they really make some great bows.
-
very nice! this looks almost exactly like the hickory backed osage i just finished up. same unbraced profile, same handle shape, almost the same full draw, only mine is 63" ntn. see, great minds do think alike!
i know what you mean about shooting high, ive been shooting from 30 yards (i usually only shoot from 20) and it hits almost exactly where im holding. the arrow only starts to drop after 35 to 40 yards, and even then its only a little. im not saying i would take a shot at a deer at that distance, but it makes thoes 15 - 20 yard shots feel like a chip shot!
i really do love these r/d bows, deffinately my favorite!

Marvin, extraordinary bow you've built. Excellent craftsmanship. Know you're proud of your shooting partner, a great archer and bowyer in the making.
-
Thanks
Woodsrunner....yes you need to try Ipe.....you'll like it.
Phil....I agree on the r/d.........got any pix of your bow?
Xin...believie it or not but my shooting partner likes to break rocks too.
-
not yet, but i will probably by next week. my buddy and i each did a r/d and we're gonna post them in one thread, im just waiting on him to finish it. hes got the stain on, and one coat of tru-oil. i think he's gonna do 10.

Phil can't wait to see pics if he puts on 10 coats that will look good a deep finish.
