Title: John inspired vinemaple
Post by: burn em up chuck on June 28, 2009, 12:08:38 am
i built 2 bows at John Strunk's class in april. here is the second one. i had to redo almost everything because i didn't pay atention to what i was doing while i was sanding for the finish. i lost all the tiller. i also had to rebend using heat in the handle area. this bow was a challenge from the start. when i chose stave at John's i deliberatly chose a tough one because John would be watching, so i could learn more during my time with him.
  the bows stats. are,total length= 60"
 ntn= 59" & 34#@ 25"
 i really had a tough time taking pictures of the bow because the wood is so white. so heres what i have(http://i528.photobucket.com/albums/dd326/evldwrf/bow100.jpg)

Your tiller looks even. The handle area is a bit stiff for my liking but if it shoots well, that's what matters.
What wood is this bow?

thanks for your responses;
 PatB; vinemaple
 illuminati; no hinge, this bow has numerous knots. that is my atempt to follow the back.
 there is so much going on with this bow.let me give some examples. there are 10 knots, when strung, looking at the belly, the left side of the bow is angled away from you.
 i know the reason all is not apparent. i suck at potography, and my camera. i will see if i can come up with picture that will show some of the difficulties. heres one that helps with the knots.
