how much shorter should the string be than the bow?, im working on a serviceberry sapling bow and ive got the limbs bendingfairly even about 5-6 inches.i think im ready to brace it. hopeing for a huntng weight bow. thanks in advance.

For initial bracing, you want the bow braced ~3-4" at most. For a longbow, that means a string that's ~1-2" shorter than the bow. When its ready for full brace, use a string 3" shorter or so.

About 3 is what I go with and then twis or untwist to ajust to what you want I brace mine around 5 1/2 to 6 inches.
