Title: Osage D Bow finished

I just finished my second bow, it is an Osage D bow.  I have had it finished for a while except for the handle.  I am not much of a leather worker.  It Is 50lb at 28", and 65" long.  I made an arrow shelf on each end of the grip, so you can shoot it either way.  It has a little bit of a snakey shape to it.  I am hoping to take it deer hunting this fall.  I wasn't thinking and put a glossy finish on it.  I might sand it off and put some black snake skins on it.

This bow started out as the bottom of a stave that I split off.

That's a pretty bow Scrub. How does she shoot. My only observations from the photos would be...The handle looks real wide & I prefer shooting off the finger but the tiller looks great. The lumpy wavy stuff just happens, depending on the stave. Nice job.

Your tiller looks really decent. If that was my bow, I'd round of the square edges, and narrow the tips into a nice pleasant point. It'll lighten the tips, reducing hand shock and increasing speed.

Thanks for the "tip".  I was thinking that the tips looked kind of chunky.  If I put the snake skins on it, that would be a good time work on the tips.

Hey I love the tiller, working in the handle...really an arc of a circle, (not an elipse for a change! 8))
It has a really nice look, every bit of the limb working to the max.

You could lightly sand off the gloss and spray on a coat or two of polyurethane clear satin if you wanted for hunting. Sanding will allow the poly to adhere to truoil. Or you could just steel wool the truoil and remove the gloss for hunting. Just some options for you...

nice bow scrub!!!!  I always think it is awesome for someone to take a piece of scrap wood from a split that most would have thrown away and make a functional weapon from it.  Looks great too nice tiller!    -Josh
