The red oak in lay blew out I tried to use gorilla glue!!! Good news I set it up on tiller still pulling a good weight ideal minimum for hunting deer!!!I want to know if I should sand out the little bit of lip i chiseled in for the red oak or replace it with something else and use epoxy and by adding backing it should help as well!!! Please if anyone is reading this Id really like to save this BOW!!!!
CHEERS!!!
-
All I can say is DO NOT TRUST THE GORILLA GLUE FOR BOW REPAIRS!!! been there, done that and won't do it again!!
Can't go wrong with real hide glue.
-
Il look into that kinda glue. I seen it heard of it never used it!!!
-
alright man , im ready for more pics . staves, wood shavings, chips flying everywhere ! lets see some NEW YORK bow making lolol ! >:D
-
you never heard of hide glue? and you call yer self a caveman?? :o ;D ;D
looks like it will be a cool bow when you finish it up. im not a bowyer so i have no helpfull input exept keep up the good work and keep us informed. ;D

haha that's hilarious man! Yeah, i musta made about a dozen bows since July 12.
-
how thick was the inlay? can you belt sand past it, and still have workable bow? If there is enough left, you can heat-temper it a la Marc St Louis, and get a snappy bow with reduced mass.
-
The only drawback to hide glue is it ain't waterproof.
-
Radius its like 3/16 thick inlay I can sand past it and perhaps heat temp or back with something ...any suggestions???? By the way I have heard of hide glue just havent used it...read the fine print
Ken maybe ul get 2 bows after all..along with a few other gifts I have in mind for ya ;) ;)
Cheers!!!
-
use a heavy rasp or a beltsander to go through that belly inlay if you can...see if you can't make a shooter out of that thing!
-
I took out the inly looks ok but its only 30lb lookin to get it up a bit gona heat treat and my lam it ...gonna be freaky but im determined to make it work!!!
-
some bows you just chuck and chalk it up to experience
