Here's a deflex/reflex bow I made for myself for this years hunt. The bow is Osage backed with a plain sawn Hickory backing, I've been using plain sawn backings lately because even with Hickory I've had failures with quarter sawn backings. The bow is 60" N to N with limbs just under 1 1/4" wide tapering to 3/8" nocks. I backed the Hickory with Pin Cherry bark, 2 strips per limb. It pulls 55# @ 28". I haven't chronographed it but I shot the bow with 600 grain arrows and it was very fast, I expect it shoots 10 GPP arrows at well over 180fps

Sweet looking bow Marc. She definitely looks fast. Justin

Mark you certainly have the knack formilking every once of speed that is possible for the wood. Can't wait to see some more pics.
-
OK, Marc
Stop teasing us already!! More pics please!
-
Beautiful!
Marc, do you have an issues aiming/shooting with a short window like that?
-
Thanks guys. I had a bit of a problem with my pictures but I corrected them
I don't have a problem Kegan and the people I have made bows for tell me that my bows are some of the finest they have ever shot. I have to agree with them :)

that's hilarious!
i know what you mean about the quartersawn hickory backings. The only hickory backing i ever had give way was quartersawn! The rest are all plain sawn with grain step downs every step of the way from tip to tip.
Marc i've been following your guidelines for heat-treating with good success. White oak quartersawn responds very well to dry heat, shapes easily, and retains reflex. Yew, i haven't heat-tempered, but i have used dry and wet heat both to deal with off-center tips and in one case i popped some extreme reflex out of a bow by steaming the stave and kinking it at the center.
I've never shot a bow like yours here, with that handle shape. How does it feel in the hand? I guess you'll say "finer than any other"!

Awesome bow, I really love the looks of your de/re bows. That looks like one speedy shooter, I can't wait to see some full draw pics.

Thanks guys.
Glad you liked the article Josh

Great bow. Like the cherry backing.
Interesting about the plain sawn hickory. I have had failures with it and never with quarter sawn

Marc, did you splice it and put the deflex in at the splice like the PA article? Can't remember if you said you use a bandsaw or hand saw on the splice.
-
Full Draw?
-

Oh, I don't doubt it ;D!
I was just curious. Such a short window seems more effective than a big one for a wooden bow. Best of both worlds kid of thing :).
-
Really nice Marc! Looks fast. ;)
-
Thanks guy. I'm afraid you will have to wait for the full draw. I wrote an article for PA around this bow and that is where the rest of the pictures will go
-
That's a beauty Marc. Good huntin' to you this season. God Bless
