Title: Drying leg sinew?
Post by: Buffalogobbler on November 23, 2009, 07:06:45 pm
For the first time I removed the leg sinew from my deer,
and I got to wondering about drying it out.
Has anyone ever tried using a food dehydrater to dry sinew?
It seems like a good idea to me,
but I wonder if the dehydrated might dry the sinew out too much, is it possible to dyy sinew too much?

I just lay mine out on my Wood Workbench to dr....but I can not see where a Dehydrator would hurt anything....just dont turn it up all the Way....should be fine

I just lay it out flat,in the sun if possible,It only takes a day or 2. I guess the dehydrator would work, just seem like overkill to me. :)

Thanks for the opinions guy's,
I thought it would take longer than a few days to dry.
I'll lay it out on a board in my work shop.

The main thing is to keep it away from critters. I had a stray cat ate 18 leg sinews in one sitting that I had drying on my workbench. Sucker crawled over the rafters and into the shop and he was devouring the last one when I walked in.

LOL  Guess you could get your sinew back plus a little extra shorter sinew.  Plus gut string, plus...

I'm using cattle's sinew, which is a bit thicker. I just split it and dry it on top of a cupboard. 2 days do a fine job.
