Title: Homespun Dall Deweese neck knife.....
Post by: loosenock on November 25, 2009, 03:33:42 pm
One of my favorite knife patterns is the Marble's Dall Deweese knife.  Marble's made this knife from 1907 'til 1931.  Original Deweese knives are impossible to find.  I was able to look at one and that was about it.  It was love at first touch.  I had to have one.  This knife I made from forged 1095 high carbon steel and it is about 7/8th the size of the original I looked at.  I thought it would really be sweet as a neck knife.  The blade length is 3 3/16 inches overall length is 6 3/8 inches.  I antiqued the stag handle and blade.  The distressed neck pouch is made from the uppers of an old boot.  I really like old stuff.

I am not looking to advertise or sell on the forums.  I just like making my own stuff as a hobby.

Your comments would be appreciated, Thanks

i really like it,wouldnt mind one like that for myself

one question though, the serrations on the top of the blade
are they just there for asthetic reasons or do they work like a saw?

Thanks for all of you comments gents, they're very appreciated.

Sailerdad the serations on top the blade are for thumb purchase when you need more leverage or pressure on the tip of the blade.  The early Dall Deweese knives had very tiny serations.

Mechslasher, for antiqueing bone and antlers I use potassium permanganate.  For the blade I used ferric nitrate.  The leather was old to begin with, but, it you want to anitque leather spraying it down with Eazy-off oven cleaner and let is set for about 30 minutes and then rinse well and let dry.

Thanks for all your comments, they are well appreciated.
