Title: Antler billets
Post by: jthompson1995 on January 16, 2010, 01:47:47 pm
Is axis antler good for billets?

I traded on another forum and got some pieces of axis antler intended for making pens. They are nice and heavy, about 1" diameter and 4"-5" long and I thought they might be good for billets.

I haven't done any knapping before and don't have any rock but I though I might set them aside for my future tool kit.

They are suppose to be the best for knapping because they are not poreous like whitetail. I have several antlers, but am trading them for pens.

yeah, as long as they don't have a spongy, pithy core, they should work great.

Cool, Thanks. I'll just set them aside until I can gather some other stuff.
