Title: heres mine
Post by: sailordad on February 05, 2010, 01:24:12 am
well after cowboy started these "in situ" points or paper weights or whatever you want to call them
i had to give it a whack  :D
actually i had seen some of these a few months back on another site and thought they were pretty slick
i was gonna wait untill i got back from vacation to try it,but last night i sat down and couldnt think of what type of point to make
so i started to dig in my rock pile and found a piece that i thought would work for one of these paper weight points
it statred as a piece of dacite, and its still is a piece of dacite.
all i did was uncover most of the point that was hiding in it.
its not as pretty as the others that i have seen so far,but i am happy with it after all it is my first attempt
its a little thick, probably could have gotten it thinner but i told myself "hey its just a paperweight,it needs a little mass"
and besides its the second thing i have succesfully made in a week now, finally think i have shaken off the "funk"
i cut the base flat with my elec. wet tile saw, glued on a piece of leather on the base
heres a pic,thanks for peeking

Great job Tim :) I'm thinking that rock that is fairly easy to knap would be best for this, never tried dacite but it looks
like the flakes travel nicely

Tim,

I like the leather in the base. Did you grind the base any to get it smooth?

thanks everyone  ;D
i appreciate all the niceties

i did run it thru my tile saw on the base, just to square it up
and put the leather on it to keep it from sliping and scratching
