Only my third finished bow, I'm nonetheless proud of the way this little smooth shooter turned out. It's a solid piece of hickory, 72" long and 67" ntn. It pulls 40# at 27", making it still a good weight for some light hunting yet a comfortable draw weight for hours of target practice. Some of the features on this bow include an hemp cord wrapped handle, my first attempt at an arrow shelf, and some unusual faux horn tips. I overlayed small blocks of hickory and glued those down before making the double nocks, and also added a little extension of cedar on the tips for decoration. The tips are finely carved to give the impression of hickory leaves. The bow is stained with ebony then coated with polyurethane. It has a brace height of 6 and half inches, and with a self-made endless loop hemp cord string, it really zips the arrows beautifully. We almost never get snow in this part of Texas, so these pictures my wife took are exceptional for that reason. I thought I'd share a few with you.

Looks like you have yourself a shooter there. Congratulations.
-
Very nicely done. Your tiller looks spot-on.
-
Pretty evident that a lot of work went into it, and it really shows -- nice job !! For only your third, I'd say that you must have a pretty good eye judging by the tiller. On to the next one ???

Nice hick bow, there, Prof!

Nice lines, looks like a smooth shooter. I like dark long bows. Shooting the first arrows is way cool isn't it?

Sure is. And as far as dark bows, yeah, one of my next builds I plan to paint solid black and do some gold metallic work on it. That is a stunning look, especially for fantasy bows.

was that a rift-sawn board? the way the grain runs out near the tip makes it look that way...safe though, not to worry. I've made long hickory bows like this and they last, they look good, and they shoot fast. God job!

You have a right to be proud of this one. Very nice hickory bow. Quite the razzoo tips :P Bookmarked for Feb Self Bows of the Month, too.

Yeah, radius. My dad built a sawmill and the stave was cut on his mill. He does what he calls "flat cut", which he says is similar to rift-sawn.

Very nice bow. Jawge
