Ok so I need to start shooting more and I can't think of a better way to do that than to hold some friendly competitions. You all know how this works, winner posts a new challenge we'll say every monday...since today is monday, and chooses the next winner sunday night...I'll start with the first one. (correct me if I forgot any of the old rules, its been awhile since ive done it 8) )
Since we're about a month away from spring turkey season I think this is only fitting. you get one shot from ten yards....aiming for the red dot on the turkey's neck (even though you really shoot em in the breast, this is more of a challenge) closest one to the center of the red dot wins...I'll post the link to the target printout, it should fill up an 8x10 sheet....GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!
PS Ill post mine tonight when I get off work...they don't like me shooting my bow inside by the computers :-\

When they print out the red circle should be about the same size as a quarter...mine fill up the whole page too

Gonna try have a go with this! I'll print off the pic in work tomorrow and then shoot it when I get home (or as close to it as I can get :D). Will put up a pic, if it isn't too embarrassing :P

First off, my disclaimer! ;D Sunday was the first time that I have shot since mid December. On Sunday I shot about 12 arrows. This is my first shot since then. Ten paces(approx 10 yards) The second pic is from where I shot.
Dead turkey but not in the red dot! ::)
The bow used was a yew selfbow 47#@26", tapered ash arrow with reinforced self nocks, 656gr with 125gr field point.

Thanks guys. Yeah we each shot about 60 shots yesterday at the Johnsonvile shoot. That was fun
Pat your left and right looked real good. I struggle with that the most being left eye dominant.

kyle, i never shoot in the breast.heck i dont even take side shots with a bow on turkeys anymore,its either head/neck or spine shots for me.
less chance of a wounded bird running off.
i will try,operative word there is "try",and print that target off.if that dont work i will go by some(i need them anyhow) and try to get my shot this week and post it.

Well my turkey is gonna live to see someone else's dinner table, but I think I would have given him a nice haircut.....got a lot of kill shots following the first one but here it is anyway

thats a dead bird.them broaheads are upto 4" diameter ;)
shhh dont tell anynone,but thats what i sue when i take my wheelie bow chasing turkeys
and if your hunting out of a blind getting more than one shot at a bird is easy

the only problem I have ever had with the Gobbler Guillotines...is they are normally only good for one Shot...especially if you miss.. and they aint cheap..... >:(

Aint no sense complaining about it...hell even the Trees gave up and grow on a 45 degree angle with it...and thats no lie...... ;)...even when the Wind aint Blowing...the Trees look like they are.......... ;D

Kegan...you can Join In any Week for that Shoot...no problem..you don't have to shoot every one either..
And Sterling...see if You can send that Rain this way...we could use about 15 inches...to put some water back in lake Meredith...She's down to 40 foot....from 120....not looking good either....got Salt Cedars growing where the water was 30 foot deep and full of Walleye... >:(

Great shooting everyone. Looks like Chris is in the lead but nobody hit the middle of the red dot yet.
Skyarrow your drawing looks great and that was a creative way to get around not having ink in the printer ;)

i also think im just shy of the 10 yd mark ... shooting in basement but its atleast 9 1/2 yds ;)

I haven't joined a range yet, so I had to shoot in my super hush-hush secret apartment hallway range, which maxes out at 8 yds. I tried to print the target 20% smaller but couldn't overcome the technological learning curve. Here it is even though it's a cheat. I saw at least one closer shot than this, so I don't need to tell anybody to disqualify me. ;)

I've hardly ever even seen a wild turkey in my lifetime, but I felt an urge to plan a hunt when I saw the nick in the side of the spine! ;D

Zen, the only one I've killed with a bow was at ten yards. shot at the base of the neck with a Tonkin arrow, coral point and Osage bow. I cut the top off the heart. It flew twenty yards, I missed a second shot and it walked about 6 yards and fell dead. They will come in close if you hide good.

that why i use a ground blind ;D
eddie im hoping a similar setup works for me this spring. osage bow (cockeyed),got a nice coral point that i made,but i dont have tonkin.gonna use osier

Since Im at work I'll have to declair a winner now...I think everyone who got a kill shot should win but since I said the red dot I think Catfishon is the winner...right on the mark at ten paces looks pretty good to me Congrats Catfishon you get to come up with the next Challenge! Lol, I dunno looks like the bunny population is in some danger from most of us, at least in danger of an unwanted piercing. Now the small red dot population...it might just take over the place if we don't get some more crack shots in here. ;D

well from all of the pics it looks like i was the only one to hit the red dot on the first shot so here is the next challenge. This challenge is to help improve your muscle memory with your shooting.
ok the shots will be at 5yrds because alot of yall are shooting indoors and i dont want yall to miss the target lol ;) in the future we can do a longer range ;D
all rite enough sed this is how it goes pick any spot on your target and shoot at it then the fun part begins try to tune in on how that shot felt load another arrow close your eyes NO PEEKING and make the next shot with your eyes closed tryn to hit the first arrow and who ever can make the smallest group wins
i use to do this when i was younger to improve my shooting i would start at 5yrds and work my way to about 30yrds talk about fun GL all and happy shooting

Alrighty, looks like I'm the first one...was just happy not to be looking for the arrow for hours. Actually turned out a little better than I thought it might, just need to work on the height.

Pat I think you should shoot with your eyes closed all the time. "True instinctive shooting" ;D Really that's pretty good though.

OK...I got Snowed out Today....we got three inches of Snow this Morning....they sent Us Home...the Sun came out...melted it all...so here is my Try...They ended up being almost 6 inches apart...nothing to write Home about...but not Bad either....

Sooo...since it's Saturday already...We will have to let this one run through next Sunday ....just to be Fair.especially for Me....We just got 4-6 inches of the White Stuff...and the Wind is whistling out there...I aint goin out there..... ;)
So....lets play Darts....Three Shot total....1 at 5 yards....1 at 10....and last at 15 yards...High Score Wins All...sound good?? We aint going to score Double and Triple...so if you cut a red or a green line...it's still just the Point Value of the Wedge...except for the Bullseye...which is 25.......

OK...here goes my Try at It...I am shooting a new Bow that I built for a Freinds Boy....it's too short for Me...and it has a Rest...which I never use...so it's really strange for Me to Shoot with....I can't seem to keep the Arrow on the rest for crap.... ;)

Well I have done better...I can assure you of that!! But at least I aint cheatin either....... :o...First time to shoot this at a Target since I built it...the Arrows seem to be a bit too much for the light Bow...but I did OK...at least I hit the Target all three times...thats more than I expected..... ;D...I got a 38 (9+12+17) for a Score...should not stay Top Score for long....... And I don't want to hear a thing about the Socks either...I just got Home from Work..and didn't feel like dressing up for You......... >:D
