Just a quick question. I have access to some heavy Buffalo leather to make some heavy weight high top moccasins. I also want to put some raw hide soles on them. Will the heavy weight buffalo leather work o.k? What are your suggestions ? Is grain on leather better than seude ?? What weight leather works best ? Is 8-9 oz. o.k. ?

Buffalo hide was widely used in the making of winter moccasins for the native tribes where it got cold. Buffalo is top knotch hide to use for durable footwear. the mountain men would have them made big enough to go over a pair or two of lighter moccasins.
