Took my first bearded hen this past weekend in the Southwestern part of OK. Also, my first Rio turkey...pretty special. I shot her in the late afternoon on a bluff near where they roost. The shot was from behind and angled up and out the chest. Unfortunatley, I missed the spine and she was able to take flight and sailed into a wheat field about a half mile away. I watched her through the binos and marked the spot where she landed(never moved once she landed) Had to make a big circle to find a place to cross the river and get over to her... It was well past dark when I finally made it back to camp...

Nice turkey! Glad you went and got her after she took off. Great story man. :)

Very cool.. I have never gotten a bearded hen. Missed one years ago with shotgun.
A friend of mine was after one today that he new was in his area but could not pass the tom that came in.
How long a beard did it have??

Nice Bird Chad. I always wanted one. Had a hunt buddy shoot one out from under me in Alabama and saw a nice one Jesse got at Pappy's last weekend. They are rare.

Great job Chad! Those turkeys are almost impossible to get with a bow...but you did it with your osage self bow....that's awesome! congrats

Lowell,
She had about a 3 inch beard. I didn't even notice she had a beard until they were right on top of me. She was the last of 4 hens that passed by my makeshift blind at 12 yards. If she had been leading, I am sure I would have gotten busted if I tried to shoot... She was only the second bearded hen I had seen hunting.

Congrats Chad,nice bird . :) See ya in a few weeks. :)

Good job marking her and collecting your harvest!

chad
that was some fancy tracking to watch the turkey sail 1/2 mile out thru your binos , then to go into
the evening darkness wow great job man. My first turkey i got was a bearded hen, with a pencil thin
9 inch beard, i made two wing bone calls with the hen ulna wing bone inserted into a gobbler ulna bone.
the calls work great and look good too. It's hard to get a hold of some hen wing bones, so if you don,t mount the whole turkey you might want to hang onto those wing bones. ............alligatorjoe
