Here are some pics of my reed hunting arrows. these arrows are pretty light in weight, but they fly beautifully from my little 40-lb osage bow, and 3 of the 4 arrows that are pictured have actually made kills (small game). The reed isn't phragmites...it's an imported exotic called giant reed. It makes GREAT arrows. Anyway, here are some shots of them. OOPS....I forgot...the one with the white feathers is actually rivercane, not reed....but it still flies great and its heavier weight makes it hit like a hammer. All these arrows are tipped with my signature little bird points that have proved deadly in real hunting situations. Anyway, enjoy....

good looking arrows! Great goose fletch?

HEy Wade,
No, that POS bow is too powerful for these arrows.....they are only spined for my little 40 pounder. If I shot them out of your bow they would whip around really bad.
I haven't been doing ANY hunting or shooting lately....just haven't had time. I've shot the POS bow a few times, but that was months ago. I like it!!

nice looking arrows
i thought goose was a protected species, and the feathers were treated like raptor feathers(also protected)?
-
i don't know if goose is protected or not.....never seen any literature on the legality of the feathers...
-
i thought ther was a discussion about that subject over on PP
someone was looking for goose feathers to make a head dress
and someone chimed in about that, myself i am not realy sure
i would use them if i had them, they are nice looking

They look like Goose feathers to me ;)
-
great lookin' stuff - definitely goose! like that low, long fletch, gonna try that with my first cane arrows, I think.
-
that's right...they're snow goose. Kinda look bluish cause of the camera flash.....
-
Nice arrows Billy, That's the kind of work I love to see.

Billy (or anybody else that uses them) how do you like the long fletches? i know most native arrows had the long fletching way back to the nock like that. Do you have problems with noise or do you press the feather down when you grip the arrow. I use a leather shooting glove and it can be loud on the fletchin gif I'm not careful. Just curious how you deal with it?
-
Yes, goose feathers are legal. Eagle, owl, buzzard, Blue Herons, and hawks are protected. ;D ;)

Those look like killers.

Hey Comebackshane,
I like the long fletches...they work really well. However, the feathers on those reed arrows are actually kinda soft, so I really don't get a scratching noise if I rub against them. Also, I usually just pinch the little "tail" of feather that hangs over the nock when I shoot the arrows....and it works fine.
With my 52 -lb bow I must use larger arrows, and therefore thicker, sturdier feathers. With those, I make sure to cut the feathers clear of the nock so I don't touch them when shooting...they make a loud "scratch" if I do, and I don't want that when I have a deer in close quarters.
