Hi all!
Cut a hazelnut in January, roughed out a bow and had it sitting around in the workshop with not much interest to finish it, until a Lady asked for a lighter bow. It has almost 3" of string follow, but draws smooth, has no handshock, is easy to shoot accurately, and with 30# at 27" the draw weight is au point. She is an absolute beginner and I guess the bow is just right for her.
The bark is sanded and dyed, the overlays are waterbuffalo horn, the string is FF.
Braced, unbraced and FD shot soon to follow.
Hope you enjoy...

Lovely lookin bow. I need to try hazel one day, loads of it around here.

The back of that bow is nice.I like the finish with the dye.Just curious, what problems required the wraps? God Bless
-
how do you stop the bark drying, cracking and coming away from the wood while drying the stave? do you have problems with the bark wanting to come away from the wood over time once the bow is done? how do you prevent this? is that what the wraps are for?
sorry for all the questions. i love the bow.

Thanks all!
@Pete: The uppermost wrapping is to protect a little knot right on the edge of the limb, the others are to cover a few tiny cracks in the bark right where the bow bends the most.
@Otis: Hazelnut bark won't come off when the stave was cut in winter.

Thanks Acker, thanks El D. Yes that bark on finish sure looks cool, and I'll sure make some more like that!
Here come a few more pictures, unbraced, braced, profile from belly side and the new owner Tania cranking her back to a full 30# at 27"; she certainly had a great time shooting a wooden bow for the first time!

Very cool, I really like the "bark on" look.

Very cool bow, Frank. The bark and wraps give it a great look. Is the wrap cherry bark? Kind of looks like it is.
This looks like a perfect bow for Tania. Thanks for sharing it with us.

@Pat: wrapping is dyed linen thread.

Great looking bow,the only one I have done with the bark left on was hickory cut in the winter,it lasted a while but eventually cracked. That one really looks great, she should love it. :)
