Hey guys...I found four 1.5" wide by .5" thick by 6 feet long super straight grained red oak at Menards. I thought I would use them to practice tillering.
This is my second self bow so far
Specs on this board is 52" long for my 26" draw. 1.5" wide from handle to mid limb and tapering down to .5" nocks for now.
Here is the tiller at 24". Finally got the bend out of the handle and into the upper limb...I thought it would never bend for how much scraping I did on it.
The handle is temporary...just leather from a braided belt I bought at a yard sale for 25 cents.
I shot it a few times...zero hand shock even with these wide tips. Still two more inches draw to pull out.
Set so far is 2" after unstringing and after resting the set is a little over 1 inch. Damn I wince every inch I pull this back further lol.
Hows it looking so far?

Tiller looks good. You could get the outer 1/3 of each limb to bend a bit more. That might give you the 2" you need.
Very well done for your 2nd bow! 8)

i agree with pat although i think the top limb needs more scarps , great work so far !
-
looks good to me.
-
so far so good
but like Pat said, outer third on the limbs
-
thanks guys...i'll scrape a little more tomorrow after work and see where the tiller lands.
-
Scraped a little more on the outer limbs...and a little mid way on the top limb.
Finally got it to 26" without breaking. Now its just narrowing the tips. Average set is 2.25". Length from nock to nock is 50".
I'm not sure of the draw weight though...maybe 30-35lbs. I'm happy with it.
Thanks for ur help guys :) Now ON TO THE NEXT!!!
BTW im leaning my head away from the bow while holding the full draw for a couple seconds...didn't wanna it in the face if it exploded lol.
