Title: A bit more than an arrow
Post by: Marc St Louis on July 04, 2010, 10:46:07 pm
Made this a few weeks ago.  Don't think it will go that well out of a bow

It sure look's like it could make a hole in something, Marc.

There's a gathering of all the Algonquins in town here next weekend.  I thought it would look good on my table

You could always come down here to Alabama, and go hunting with it.

Marc- are you Algonquin?  There is a town in my area called Algonquin...thought it sounded NAish, just never researched it. What type of bows would they have used?  Nice job!

Thanks guys.

Not something I would make ordinarily but it turned out quite well.  The point is one that Paul Wolf sent me as an unfinished piece along with some stone a couple years ago, I just finished it up.

I am Algonquin, Jeff, along with some Mic Mac and a bit of Mohawk thrown in.  Of course there's also a mix mash of European in there as well

Might be a bit stiff in the spine for most of my bows....maybe for some of those guys that build the warbows.  I'd never be able to say for sure cuz I can't pull the bow that thing would need.

As an Anti-personnel Pig Poker, it might be pretty good.  Love to see the photos when you try it out!   >:D

Sweet, now all you need is a pig to stick it with.

It'll work just fine Marc, you just need to make a slightly bigger bow. ;D Cool spear!

Thanks guys

Much of the work on this spear was done with stone tools and all natural materials were used.  The notch for the point was made using modern tools but besides that everything else was done by hand.  The shaping of the spear was done with stone and the point was tied on with Moose backstrap sinew.  It has 1 Eagle feather, I only had the one, and the other is Wild Turkey that Glenn Doane sent me a few years ago.  The 2 feathers on the end were from a Pigeon who was too stupid to stay away when I took it in my mind to thin the local flock a couple years ago.
