how do you stiffen the limbs up on a selfbow need help
-
Back it.
use wood, Bamboo or sinew.
or Pike it (make limbs shorter)
or a mix of both.

So I take it you came in a little under weight with your new bow? the easiest and fastest and most sure-fire fix there is would be to just start another. :) My first 2 or 3 came in underweight too. Try to get it braced earlier, most people leave it on the long string too long and by the time they get to the full brace they are already under weight. IF it is a succesful bow then just keep that one to practice your form with and try to make your next one heavier. You know you are going to make another one anyways! :)

I'm with Josh. Normally it's more than weight that I'd like to fix, so on the next one I adjust the handle, the tips, maybe the style or shape. Not only is the second one closer in draw to what I wanted, but there are usually other little aspects that I like. Unless I don't have anymore of that material, I usually just go make more :)

Yep....more work to flatten out the Belly....cut a Backing Strip...and glue the Two together...than it is to just start over...and learn from what you did wrong...good luck... ;)
-
this selfbow i made is 701/2" from nock to nock.pulls 40lbs@27".i wanted between 45/50@27"just a little lite for hunting for me.josh thats the best advice start over.i was going to make 2or3 more anyway i love it.how does this sound.make apyramid bow.68"between nocks fade from riser1 1/2" to 1/2".thickness of limbs 1/2" will that work.kink

Heck if it's 70 inches go ahead and pike an inch off both limbs and make it 68 inches... should give you 4 or 5 lbs... I thought you meant it came in waaay under weight. :)
....but still build another just because. ...and post pics. :)
-
ueah go ahead and pike, probably the best bet
-
do i cut off 1 1/4" from both that will make 68" nock to nock an cut in nocks should that work.kink
-
yeah that should up the poundage by about 5 pounds i think
-
What kind of wood? Might be able to go shorter?
-
i'm a big fan of heat treating a little reflex in if it's close to my target weight- for me it kinda depends on the wood, though
-
cut the tips off , i've seen tiller on this one looks good it should handle 68 just fine . great work by the way

i cut the ends off it brought the poundage up to46lbs@27" perfect.thanks alot my primitive buddies.kink
-
I gained 2.5#/inch when I piked.
I gained 10 pounds of draw weight when I went from 72"to 68"

Hey Kink, it looks great! Good work on the bow, I think with your draw weight and draw length that this bow is not overly strained at all. At the 70" length there was too high a degree of "overbuild" and you would have had a problem with some handshock and low arrow speed. I bet it's a sweeter shooter now, too.
Now get back in the shop and start the next one!

starting monday on another bow.pyramid bow i like kens bow .i am having so much fun.you buddies have a geat weekend.kink
-
good luck on the next one , you turned out a great first bow shows some pics of the next one as well , we like pics

That's the idea. Start another just like you did. Piking is a bowyer band aid which teaches you nothing about making weight. There are buidlalongs on my site. Your bow looks great! Jawge
