I was doing some heat treating on a bow I was making and I was curious and a question came to mind. I believe Half Eye smokes his wood at somepoint in the bow making process and I am wondering what effects it has on the wood, Does it dry out the wood or temper the wood or ???

The Native Tribes would build their Bows...grease them down good with Tallow...and hang then up in the Tipi where the Smoke from the Fires would cure them ...keep the Dry...and actually help to waterproof the Wood with the Creosotes and Formaldehyde in the Wood Smoke...just like a Braintanned Hide is done....

It also makes it smell smokey. :D ;)
